Comes out the 30th.

I'm going to order mine later as I see a nice deal with a few games and pro controller.

A lot of people are complaining about random hard locks.

I mean 'disconnect it from the electrical corrent' hard locks.

Yay, first adopters...

Question for Segata.

Are you able to use the Wii U Pro Controller in place of the classic controller for Wii Games? For games like Xenoblade or NMH2?

I don't know, but I don't think so since you go into an emulated Wii to play its games. You select the Wii channel and then the dashboard and everything changes to the Wii's.

Don't think so.

Edit nope guess not, thats silly. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Wii-U- ... 18475.html

On the plus side, the Pro controller works on a few more games then I thought. I was looking through miiverse and saw a lot of interesting stuff.

People keep slamming this thing for specs. Get's me thinking because the PS3 & 360 are still top of the line specs all these years? No. The games kept people interested. Then these people so obsessed with specs and want top of the line then won't admit it's now next gen and want to cling to the 360 & PS3...you know the systems with 6 year old tech. Then they say well they were top of the line in 2005! Yeah well my 386 PC from the 80's was top of the line back then also. S0 was my N64 in 1996 and Xbox in 2001. So ?

The only thing that really bothers me is all the issues people seem to have been having with it, not only hard locks. Sadly, that seems like an universal thing these days with first batches of new consoles, not just Nintendo obviously.

The NeoGAF guy that 'hacked' the WiiU online on accident is posting Nintendo Shop images with mentions of Metroid and... Metal Gear?

Not really. People want more powerful consoles and for some reason [cost] Nintendo have used parts that are dated even compared to 7 year old tech.
A lot of gamers on forums have moved on to PC gaming because they are fed up with the current consoles and feel they are holding games back. Its hardly clinging on to the consoles simply cause they point out that not everything in the WiiU is an upgrade on them.

First and most importantly, the Wii U is quite repair-friendly, with a casing that's easy to remove… although some connections are soldered, not plugged. Considering that Nintendo's consoles can sometimes be difficult to fix at home, this is good news. That said, you will have to pull twelve screws to get the casing off, so it's not quite a home PC in that respect.

Inside, among the surprises:

- There are two wireless controllers (in the technical sense, not the gaming sense). One is your standard 802.11 b/g/n that basically everything has now, and the other is a dedicated 802.11n designed solely to communicate with the GamePad. This explains a lot about how the GamePad can have a relatively long range, although it's far from perfect.

- The Wii U has a peak bandwidth of 12.8 GB a second, courtesy of 2 GB of DDR3 SDRAM. The original Wii could pull 5.6 GB a second. This is not, theoretically, as fast as an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3, but a lot depends on how the system uses its eDRAM, hence the 'catch' alluded to in our headline.

- The Wii U consumes between 28 and 32 watts when playing, which is far less than the supplied power brick can cough up.

In short, there's some interesting engineering decisions made by Nintendo, but until we get a more detailed look, we're not going to know, exactly, how it ranks against the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Ordered mine.

Also been seeing that Wii games look a little better on this which is a plus. Even though they said they wouldn't I knew it would look better through a HDMI then composite cables so I held off on a few Wii games towards the end.

I think we got all the 3DS stuff the same time as the US so I assume day one I could plug it in and download it all straight away. Looking at my calender I'm going to be pretty busy for the weekend it comes out so I may not get to have a proper go for a few days.

with how long it takes to update you can set it at the start of the weekend and when you get back it'll just have finished.

I mean to other features. not everything is working like TVii. I wonder if that'll be like a day 1 thing for PAL or Japan.

Ah thought you was talking about the main update. GT is keeping a list of known issues

No console launches perfectly smoothly, and the Wii U is no exception. Here's what day-one buyers of the Wii U have been complaining about.

- First and foremost, users are seriously annoyed at the 5GB system update that the console immediately starts uploading and may take hours to actually install. There's no way to cancel it once it starts, and if something goes wrong, it may brick your console.

- Rumors are going around that the system will occasionally go into a hard lock that can only be fixed by yanking the plug. It seems to be largely anecdotal, so far, but threads have been popping up on gaming websites with consistency.

- The system storage, as we told you, leaves something to be desired.

- Nintendo Network IDs can not be ported between consoles. If your Wii U gets trashed… well… too bad.

- The GamePad will only last 3 to 4 hours before needing to be recharged.

- Some users have reported needing to configure the Wii U manually in order to get wireless access.

- Minors will have to have their parents cough up fifty cents to register on Nintendo Network. Realistically, though, this one is likely to prevent kids from registering without the consent of parents.

- Gamers with older TVs are reporting some fairly serious overscan problems, that is, they can't see the edges of the game when playing.

- And the Miiverse had the expected day-one crash.

For anyone that gets the console, keep an eye on the miiverse. it takes all those little notifications you get on XBL and PSN and keeps them out of the way, so its easy to forget you're getting them but you can go into the miiverse at any time.

Stuff like friend requests and messages can be viewed in there.

Its also just good for game info.

Explains it. I thought they just had a silent launch in the UK, in which case I would of laughed in Nintendo's faces for not advertising at all..
