^^The demo was kind of cool. Good production values for sure, and some really original ideas for an RPG. Not sure it's up my alley exactly, but it was nice trying something original.

Really original ideas? Seriously? Like ripping off Persona and using a crappy art style in its place? Looked like waifu wars to me. All fanservice and little else and frankly, I'm sick and tired of seeing those same shitty trends in JRPGs nowadays. On that same note, I'm sick of seeing crap art in Japanese RPGs nowadays too. The battle system looked really naff. Persona series is the only one that does those kinds of JRPGs right.

If you ask me, JRPGs need a shake up - they're stuck in a rut (of being mediocre) and during the SNES/PSX/PS2 heyday they were far more original and varied. Thank god for Hashino (Atlus), Nomura and Takahashi, since they're the only ones with interesting JRPGs coming out.

By original ideas, I meant how you pair up with different girls and create different "children" (whatever those things are) as a result. Seemed like there was some interesting variation in there, though I just kind of skimmed through the demo, really.
I agree it's mainly a whole lot of fanservice and cliche anime stuff, but that's basically why I said it isn't really up my alley. It's a little too steeped in that stuff for my tastes (it's almost certain that I'll never get around to actually playing the full game), but it still seemed really solidly-made either way. "Same-y" doesn't automatically equal shit for me, no matter how cringy the fanservice is. It's a trend, and it'll eventually pass and be replaced by a new one.
I do agree there was way more variation in previous generations though, and we need to get back to that.

I dunno, I felt it was a bit offensive in a way. Then again, I'm growing a bit weary of the same tropes in all JRPGs full stop.
It is a trend and I'll be thankful when Japan get themselves out of it. Like I said though, only very few upcoming JRPGs interest me. Guess that's good for my wallet.
I normally like Spike Chunsoft, but that game was definitely not for me anyway.

Hehe, it sort of is that though, isn't it? "Please let me be the one you boink over the other girls you have to choose from, so we can create an archer character who specialises in long range combat", just as an example. It's so strange.
I was a bit of a grump yesterday, I'll admit. :)

 That's a good way of putting it. It also seems to be a very common theme in Japan, not just in games but in anime as well. Tenchi Muyo and a million others follow the same cliched formula of boat loads of women falling for some nerd.

You got that all in one shot? Sick haul if you did.

My friend just got me the coolest present ever!

I bought this Front Mission patch and these Front Mission pins online FOREVER ago and put them on my jacket.

Anyway, my buddies and I are going to go to Anime Expo this year and they wanted to dress up. I'm not too into cosplay so I figured I'd wear my Front Mission Jacket and some combat boots and go as a Wanzer pilot from the USN.

Well my jacket was kind of incomplete so my friend went ahead and ordered the coolest gift I've ever received. It's awesome!

A custom embroidered patch of the USN flag. Sooooooooooooooo freakin' awesome. Now my jacket and Wanzer Pilot costume is perfect :D

That's a nice little detail, actually. Reminds me of when I went to Comic-Con dressed as.. James Bond.

Just got back from the Blackpool retro games convention and picked up a few gems, namely:

Neo Contra (PS2), Resident Evil: Outbreak #2 (PS2), Metroid Prime (GC), Record of Lodoss War (DC), Armored Core 2 (PS2), God Eater Burst (PSP), Lord of the Rings Tactics (PSP)

...and Bushido Blade (finally) for a tenner. Suffice to say, that was the first game I played when I got back and I love it already. Most unique fighter I've played in quite some time.

I bought this on the weekend for $10 from a pawnborker:

Poor image aside, I had no idea anything like this existed for the Sega Mega CD. Unfortunately, I am unable to test it as at the moment I have no NTSC or NTSC-J games :|
