What's Your Favourite Fighter?

Postby ToL » Thu Jun 07, 2007 11:45 am

Name your favourite fighter...

My choice is DEAD OR ALIVE 4.

Excellent combat system, and a lot harder than any of the previous instalments.

The only game I play nowadays is Tekken 5.

That game never stops being fun.

I don't know about the replay value because I don't own the game myself, but the most fun I have ever had playing a fighting game was Marvel vs. Capcom 2 at my friends house for Dreamcast.

I'm not sure. Street Fighter II's a classic, but I really like the Mortal Kombat series. And obviously, Shenmue's fighting system is a firm favourite, along with that of Virtua Fighter's. I remember gettin Power Stone for the Dreamcast and that was pretty good too. Hmm... I'm gonna say...

Sonic The Fighters!

Odd choice, as I found this game extremely easy, I played it in my friend's house on the hardest difficulty and I beat the game rather fast. Boss killed me a few times while I was getting used to her weird attacks. The combat system is so...eh...it's still too easy to counter hits, and the combos are still lacking. I thought DOA4 was supposed to be more than a fanservice fighting game. However that really wasn't the case. Anyway, to each his own.

Anyway, I'm a 2D fighter guy myself, and I don't have a favorite, but from the one's I've played I nominate -

1st place goes to Guilty Gear XX#R (I haven't played Guilty Gear XX Accent Core). What can I say? It's guilty gear! If you play this thing at an advanced level (with roman cancels and false roman cancels) then the game becomes a whole new thing.

2nd place goes to Street Fighter 3 : Third Strike, this beauty by Capcom is simply amazing. Excellent cast of characters, excellent fighting system, no character is completely useless (yes, even Q is fucking awesome here). This game is available for Dreamcast, Xbox, PS2.

3rd place goes to Melty Blood Re-ACT Final, this game is based on the shingetsutan tsukihime series by Type Moon. Originally an adult manga (doujin) the deep storyline of this series made it super popular in Japan. It later had a Adult game (dating sim style) and finally came to an anime series for teens (no sex, nudity or anything of that sort). The series was a big success and there's still new merchandise being released. Now what we need is a Fate/Stay Night fighter... This game is vailable for PS2 and PC.

4th place goes to Bigbang Beat, this is rather new and still needs a lot of work but it's easily on the level of the games mentioned above. While I do not know a lot about the game's storyline itself I do know that this was originally a hentai series just like Shingetsutan Tsukihime and it's popularity is what got the creators to work on a "clean" fighting game. This game is only for PC.

5th place goes to...Arcana Heart, yet another doujin fighter, featuring an all female cast, while still providing a solid fighting game, with a very good combat system. I know very little about this game's background (nothing really). So far this game is available for Japanese Arcades.

Some of the Capcom 2D fighters are fun, but never really technical.

Tekken 3 will remain my personal favourite. I also like Dark Ressurection for the PSP - A near perfect port.

Super Smash Bros. Melee (and the Super Smash Bros. series in general)

Easily accessible and deceptively deep, and the characters and music are the perfect thing for a Nintendo fan like me. :D

Street Fighter 2 on Genisis/Mega Drive was the best ever 2D fighting game, i'm not going to argue with anyone about that.

But i'm a big fan of the Powerstone games back in the Dreamcast days and in more recent years i have to say Tekken 5.

I never said the game was hard in itself, I only said it was harder than the previous instalments (which it is). I don't have any trouble getting through the game with any of the characters. It is extremely enjoyable. Great moves, combos, better A.I on characters, fantastic graphics even today (considering this was a very early 360 title it beats the graphics on a lot of games coming out at the moment). But that's just my choice, at the end of the day.

Anyway, to each his own.

Thank you, this wasn't supposed to be a debate, you know ;)
