Last Game/System/Peripheral You Bought

Yup. Working Designs (who brought out tons of RPGs back in the day) was an American localization team, da? It was their last game before closing down. Never came out in EU territories though, we only got Growlanser V, which is...okay, but far weaker than the rest of the series. So it's an import for me, but will emulate II & III.

Aghhh, I came so close to getting that game when it came out. It's just... the higher price point and the playing cards didn't do it for me quite like the Lunar 1 and 2 + Arc the lad collections did. It was the only one of the four big goodie boxes working designs made that I never picked up.

Although I did get the Ghaleon puppet. *fondles Ghaleon*

You have a 3DS? Let me know how this game is, it's the only game out of the Guild01 collection I haven't gotten yet. It looks different from Saito's normal games, is it more puzzle oriented, rhythm game or a simulator? I couldn't tell from the trailer, lol.

Well, I'd say the game feels totally at home with Nintendo's (skip) bitGenerations/Art Style games. While it isn't as purely conceptual as those, it does share its key aspect of simplicity of design (at least at first). So, you only use two buttons (the shoulders) and there's also a crucial use of colour. Apart from that it also shares Art Style's characteristic of being easy to get into, but getting very hard quite fast, as the game increases the variables to all sorts of crazyness (more conveyor belts, fuel gauges, lighting, money, VIP customers, suspicious bags, and of course just getting them all into the right plane before it has to leave!). So, understandably, it can get quite frustrating, but since gameplay is so simple, it's really all down to the player.

You should check Growlanser out some time, same team behind Langrisser, but it's got this sort of hybrid battle system which is unlike anything I've come across before or since. If you just check out only one game, go for Growlanser IV for PSP, it's definitely the best one out of the games I've played. If you're in the mood for an old school RPG, it's excellent (probably my favourite game from last year).

Is it a continued storyline like Langrisser?

I wish there were more people interested in localization specifically. So many companies want to release cellphone games but you could likely make the same money re-releasing old games. Also releasing better localizations of older games woud lead to stronger branding.

How about SaGa on the Japanese eShop. You could run a promo that if you preorder the game you get the Virtual Console copy, and the digital download of the DS remake. Or finally releasing Front Mission 2 in English. Lots of publishers tend to get too carried away with trying to sell the game to everybody, when you can make more then enough money selling to the niche you have and keeping costs low.

Nope. It's a contained storyline. The only games in the series that are continued from the last is I & II (it's funny because 1 is the only one not in English).

And I know right? We live in a world now without Bravely Default, Eternal Punishment PSP and Type-0. I'd like to play through the SaGa series one day, I got a decent way through SaGa Frontier 2 before backlogging it. Shame the latest game in the series has been relegated to phones (and Mana has too)...

I was just glad we managed to get Level 5's Guild01 collection, here's hoping the good reception of Crimson Shroud means more 3DS eShop RPGs, even if it is digital only...

Its maddening how much stuff gets wasted in this industry.

How else do both shitty Dragon Quest Joker games get released, and Terry's Wonderland never even get mentioned.
