OL wrote: Wow... looking up some stuff on Outcast just now, and it's amazing how much that brought me back to my good old PC days during the 90s. Games just felt different on PC back then. Nowadays, most things are leveled-out for play on both consoles and PC, so there's a similar feeling no matter what you're looking at (unless it happens to be PC-only, which the sort of "upper scale" games rarely are anymore).
But man... regardless of the varying quality of them, games like Thief, Messiah, Alice, and the original Half-Life all share a special place for me. I wish Outcast would have been in there too. I'm feeling more and more tempted to order a copy from that Amazon link right now.
Not very "PC gaming-savvy" nowadays, but hopefully it'd be able to run on my computer without too much extra work. Trying to get Thief to run properly within the past year was hell, and Thief 2 just wouldn't work.

Oh, and just to actually add to the topic:

This just worked for the mission it happens in. Kind of wish there were more instances of licensed music used during missions.

Generally GoG games run better because they're patched, install all the necessary codecs or run directly through Dosbox where necessary. But if you can finagle compatibility settings you can get just about anything running on Windows 7.

Goddamn, that made me want to play Okage. Picked up a near-perfect "used" copy a ways back and still haven't really sat down with it (a few minutes, but that's it).
Of course, I could probably say that about a lot of games I have.

I beat the game today and this song has so much meaning for me now. Really grew with Ezio. Ezio is now one of the best Gaming characters ever. This song played and made me 'remember' the long journey every step of the way. It was amazing and don't want it to end.

I highly recommend it, OL, as well as the GOG version (patched, no disc swapping, no DRM, cheap, instant delivery). Interesting story, beautiful world, surprisingly fun gameplay. Also, the Ulukai wears orange, so it's simply destiny for you.

It works fine on my modern hardware. There are some fansites around. Its history is remarkably like Shenmue, complete with a cult following. It was originally planned to be a big Dreamcast release, but was never completed. Then the sequel was planned for the XBox, but that got cancelled, and after years of waiting, the fans started to make their own sequel: Open Outcast.

They're a bit farther along than most projects, but they've been more desperate for longer.

The last coule posts are nothing short of excellence.

This one struck me right away when I got to the Moonlight Butterfly. Really beautiful, haunting sound to it.
And I didn't even know that Motoi Sakuraba did the music for the game until I looked it up. Brilliant, underrated composer.
