I keep on hesitating about buying dead souls, on one hand it's a yakuza game but the other it's a zombie shooter that isn't that great for it's genre which isn't something that really interests me, I want to buy a few games before leaving can anyone tell me if it's worth it or not?

It's worth it.
I initially played the Japanese demo, focusing solely on the early gameplay, and wasn't that impressed. But, being the Yakuza fan I am, I still bought it first day when it finally got released in the US, and my opinion of it turned around pretty quick.
It's not a standard zombie shooter by any means. It's very much a Japanese take on the whole idea, playing in a slightly more arcade-style manner. Once you get used to the controls, it's a blast to play, and leveling up your skills makes it get better and better as it goes along.
Best of all, the story is pure Ryu ga Gotoku, through and through. The storytelling style is the same as it ever was, and there's still a very substantial hub world to get sub-quests in and do a good amount of mingling with secondary characters. It's actually really interesting to see how they managed to alter the classic Yakuza formula to accomodate a zombie outbreak. There are some initial annoyances (like having to follow the same underground path over and over early on to get between the hub and the infected areas), but they mostly sibside as the story progresses and things change.
If you're a Yakuza fan, I'm sure you'll warm up to the game really quickly once you start playing. Give it a couple hours and you should be hooked.

sounds good, but I've got a limited game budget for before I go to the middle east so would you recommend it as a priority buy or should I get it later on?

Depends on if there's anything else you're looking at in particular right now...
If I hadn't played it, I'd personally probably see it as a priority right now, just because it'd be more Yakuza to tide me over until whatever we get next.

The prices it's going for now won't affect you too bad would it? That's a bargain!

unfortunately moving to another country is pretty expensive, I've only got a 30-40£ game budget so I'm choosing carefully as games are expensive out there

Good man. Binary Domain is a good game, too.

£9. Ridiculous really..

kind of hesitant about binary domain, I'm not that much of a fan of 3rd person shooters and that's all it seems to offer gameplay wise, so far I've decided on yakuza: dead souls and way of the samurai 3, I want to get a 3rd game but still unsure what yet, I would prefer a jrpg but the ps3 lacks in this domain, know any good quest based games?
