Starting to get a bit Final Fantasy-ish there... or rather, Nomura-esque. It's like a mix of classic Adol, Sion Barzhad from The Bouncer, and Squall from Final Fantasy VIII.
Objectively I like the design... but I'm not sure if I want that getting mixed in with my Ys.

Anyway, was just looking at artwork for the new Kid Icarus. Medusa looks excellent. Love the colors.

I should have left in what was in my original edit. "OL will hate it and try and compare it to FF or something"

Well Adol has Amnesia so no armor

Not sure if your original edit makes much sense, since I'm usually the one defending newer FF designs (I genuinely like Nomura's style)...
Anyway, amnesia or not, they're obviously trying to cash in on what usually sells more in Japan: prettyboy rockstars.
I usually have no problem with it at all (hell, I'd be a prettyboy rockstar if I could), I just don't think it quite jibes with Ys very well. It's just not the same "classy" art style that I always used to appreciate the Ys series for. They're getting into a much more "pop" style now, which was one of the reasons that SEVEN didn't connect with me as well as other entries have.
The game will still be excellent, I have no doubt. I'm just commenting on the one design.

EDIT: Took a quick glance at the box for Elebits for the DS today, and this design on the back of it stood out to me. Just a very nice art style. Nicely detailed, good colors, interesting base design... I just really like it.

Always loved how there were so many of them, even if they're not much characterized apart from weapon and general appearance.

Cavia did some pretty interesting things with the Tyrants in Dead Aim.

I've always liked this gang. Lots of variety and designs you wouldn't normally see. I'm a bit disappointed this series died, as it was a lot of fun.

I like how the art style despite being manga-like is still quite clean.

I've never actually played Rival Schools, but I did always like the artwork and designs from it. Always liked this guy in particular (not sure on names or anything).

Among the most hated of FF characters: Vaan.
But this version is apparently from FFTactics A2. I quite like the sky pirate style. The metalwork flourishes look great.

^^That game is just filled with great design work. Always thought Maxim looked cool.
Still need to finish it one day.

EDIT: So the "spiritual successor" (may as well just be a sequel) to 999, Virtue's Last Reward, is coming out in October. Soon as I saw the cast, I was struck by one thing in particular; while 999 had its "sexy" character sporting a sort of gypsy look, very "Greek" in a way, Virtue's Last Reward has its character looking very Egyptian.
It's like the first game had Aphrodite and the new one has Isis.
Just interesting design choices.

I think I need to pick 999 back up. Only finished it once, and it was clearly a game meant to be beaten multiple times. Still need to see the rest of the story in preparation for the new game.

I can't find a pic to save my life but Tepeu when you get the full outfit as a knight early in the game.
