There definitely is, but I believe it was all just wading on the surface of the water. Unless, as I said, I'm blanking for some strange reason. None of it was actually underwater
Either way, it's be cool to swim through coral reefs or come up in a secret underwater cavern or two. Just love that kind of thing.

if not a single one of us can remember then it as a throwaway mechanic. This looks like it'll make diving something important.

(It just hit me actually the games had swimming and diving but diving was just to keep you in low profile so that you couldn't get spotted there weren't any parts where you had to navigate underwater)

Maybe I have not played enough games but Darksiders is the one of the few games (aside from diving games like Endless Ocean) where diving and swimming underwater didn't suck. It actually worked pretty darn well.

I like underwater sections, there's something inherently dangerous and mysterious about being underwater and in games like Tomb Raider, it often leads to things like hidden tombs/treasure. Sadly a lot of games today, not even the most recent Tomb Raider, give you the freedom of doing it. It would seem a perfect fit for an AC game if it leads to treasure or sunken ships like shown in the trailer. Here's hoping it's in there.

I love the idea of underwater just most games suck at making the mechanics work. Banjo Kazooie and ario 64 are old 3d game examples I can think of where it worked same as Donkey Kong Country for 2D. Still we have TMNT on NES Zelda ooT as known talked about retro games that had problems when it came to execution. Sonic series of course is another that sucked at it. I don\t know why it's trick I guess the physics, but many games get it wrong

Looks on par to AC3. Obviously ACV will be next gen only and likely to skip Wii U

i have been bitching and bitching and bitching for years that i want a (GOOD) pirate game. while playing AC3 my girl said that they could pull off the pirate game that i o' so want in the AC series because of the whole desmond ansectors non since. i agreed but was like, meh, i doubt it. well when i read online about AC4 i yelled to her "NEXT AC GAME WILL HAVE A PIRATE SETTING" she looked at me and her eyes lit up because shes been listening to my bitching for years for a (GOOD) pirate game. I love the AC series, so who better than to make (in my mind) MY (GOOD) PIRATE GAME!!! people i cannot even begin to explain how pumped i am for this.

EDIT: i was so desperate for one once i bout the pirates of the Caribbean game...boy was i disappointed

You wait. Pirates will be next gens Zombies. :P

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- ... black-flag

Eight studios are working on Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, publisher Ubisoft has announced.

It's no surprise. The open-world Caribbean adventure is massive: 50 locations big including three sprawling cities, and a huge area of ocean to explore.

Black Flag began development in summer 2011, Ubisoft told Eurogamer, while the company was still busy applying the finishing touches to Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

Since then, Ubisoft Montreal, Singapore, Sofia, Annecy, Kiev, Quebec, Bucharest and Montpelier have been working on the project, while others were kept busy with last year's Assassin's Creed 3.

Kiev and Montpelier weren't included in the role call of developers that Ubisoft listed in its AC4 press release this morning, but were clearly listed on-screen at the reveal event that we attended.

"We've been in development since summer 2011," Ubisoft's Carsten Myhill, lead game content manager told Eurogamer. "We've had two teams working in parallel - there's been some overlapping and when it gets to the end of a game it's all hands on deck to get it finished."

Would this pattern continue in the future, with another team now at work on the next game, following the launch of AC3 last November? Ubisoft wouldn't tell.

Black Flag will be the first Assassin's Creed game developed for the next generation of consoles, although Ubisoft was coy on what to expect.

"Visuals enhancements are the most obvious difference. We'll also be supporting the new PlayStation 4 controller," Myhill teased, hinting at a controller-specific feature.

"We're going to be revealing all the details of that [in the future]. "The feature is built for the PlayStation 4 controller, but we're also looking at other controllers too."

At an event in London last week, Ubisoft showed gameplay footage that looked current-gen in terms of graphics.

"It's very early in development so that is the state of the game," Myhill explained. "It's not console-specific at this time. We're building on PC right now, but we do have it running on all platforms."

There's plenty more to read about Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flags in our just-published preview.

Eurogamers preview here. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

Just disappointed that the marketing tagline isn't "Yo ho ho, a pirates life for Wii (U, PC, 360 & PS3)"
