^^Quoted for being on the last page.

I liked the first to an extent; it had some cool ideas, such as the total recreation of a number of miles of real Los Angeles streets, a branching story, and the inclusion of shooting, driving, and melee all in one game (still rare back then). It certainly wasn't great (and admittedly in some cases was pretty damn poor), but it had some nice, honest ideas and tried to be something interesting. I can respect games like that.
And it made good use of Deftones' "Minerva" for the final boss music. I liked that. :)
But True Crime: NY was just another "thug life" pile of nuts from the San Andreas era. It controlled a bit better than its predecessor, but it was just so goddamn uninspired, I couldn't finish it. I may try again someday, but... eh.

Sleeping Dogs clearly doesn't seem terrible. It's miles above either of the old TC games, obviously. I can tell that much from the demo.
But it still doesn't feel like anything I need to get right now. It'll be a good, cheap buy later on when I'm just in the mood for a throwaway action romp. I can confidently say it'll never be a favorite of mine, though. It's one of those cases where I just don't need to play the full game to know that.

true but they did make a really big deal of it, a bit like sleeping dogs actually where they made it out to be a lot better than it actually is (combat and parkour wise) one thing about true crime LA though is that it had some good mission locations, even though the map itself sucked when it came to content and they made it so big that there were bugs everywhere, the missions were still pretty good, NY fixed a lot of the problems so I guess it's all a matter if someone enjoys that vibe or not, as for sleeping dogs the demo left me with some really bad impressions though, I'll try and borrow it from someone to see how good it is as a whole though before putting it aside

Edit: oh and True crime LA had multiple endings didn't it? something pretty uncommon at the time

Yeah think it had 3 endings depending on if you played good/bad cop and you could miss missions depending on other stuff.

I suppose I'll try the demo on of these days too. I was first tempted to buy the game at launch but changed my mind after seeing the trailer. It didn't look bad but it didn't make a huge impression either so I thought that it would be wiser to wait a bit and see.

More games need multiple endings. I belive losing to the main bad guy resulted in a painful death in the first?

Trust me, the reviews of the demo have not turned me off of getting it, i just need the price to drop a little which shouldn't take too long, I have already seen used ones going for 10-15 dollars less than the new price. Personally I never do demos because I know they don't always show what a game is. I just go by what people here say and other word of mouth sort of deals.
