Well... I've been really into Fire Emblem lately and I noticed that it's getting a crossover with the Shin Megami Tensei series. So I figured I'd give the series a shot finally. I had originally played Persona 3 but I wasn't really a fan of it, and honestly I couldn't tell you why, but that's my only experience with the series (Persona is apparently a spin-off?)

Anyway, I was using wiki and didn't know if I should start with Megami Tensei on the NES or Shin Megami Tensei on the SNES? Or if I should just skip around and play some essentials... basically I don't know what to do. :P

Can anybody familiar with the series help me out?

Easiest main-series one to get would probably be Nocturne (SMT3). Or you could try out the Digital Devil Saga duology (I see them every now and then at local Gamestops, so they shouldn't be all that hard to find). DDS is what got me into the series, and now I'm hooked, so take from that what you will.
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is also about to be released for the 3DS in a few days. If I'm not mistaken, it has a pretty similar battle system and whatnot to the main-series SMT games.

Tempted to resort to a short lived life of crime until I amass enough money to buy a US 3DS, so I can play Soul Hackers this year. Seriously though, that's just the kind of game that I would really enjoy playing this summer. Are there any other good US 3DS games that haven't come over here yet, so I can find a way to justify the purchase to myself?

Theres Devil Survivor Overclocked :P

Really its more about the waiting game, you guys will get almost everything eventually but you'll need to wait a year/half a year to get it. The person that would know best is Spence, you might wanna ask him directly.

Yeah I think your right, so far at least anyway it's about being patient and we'll get most of the games. Still annoying though.

3DS games are Region locked. Regular DS games can be played on any 3DS no matter the region. DSi games you can;t and 3DS games are locked to the region.

So anyway, Soul Hackers coming out on the 16th... I'm gonna be taking a short vacation around the middle of May, so Soul Hackers is probably going to be my go-to game on the plane and any time I've got a lull in activity.
I know it's a completely different style of play, but I'm such a fan of the Devil Summoner games on PS2, I've been wanting to play the "roots" of that little sub-series for a long time. Ecstatic that I'll finally be able to.

I didn't realize so many games were coming out for the 3DS.. I'm getting happier with my purchase each day. I think I might as well start with the 3DS ones then :)
