Your favourite gaming steeds

I dont think i have seen a topic like this in gaming, and i was sitting reminiscing about old Mega Drive games today. It made me think about the unique animals/creatures that you get to ride on and also possibly in some cases use as a weapon or power-up. I will start by what game made me think of this:

Flintstones - Red Bird

Image

You got this bird when it hatched from an egg on various levels, which allowed you the ability to fly. Not only that, but it was able to breathe fireballs out, killing some of the nasty enemies this game had.

Golden Axe - Blue Dragon

Image

This was my favourite steed quite simply because of the flame attack it had. It differed from the red dragon, which shot out individual fireballs, which were oddly a bit too inaccurate and slow to fire. Combined with the running attack, i much preferred the blue dragon over both the red dragon and also the cockatrice.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time/ Twilight Princess

Image

She doesnt have a attack of sorts, but the speed aspect to trample enemies definitely means she can be included in the list. Since Ocarina of Time, i have loved just galloping about Hyrule on Epona. Just changed the complexity of the game for me, especially after learning her song as child Link, and then rescuing her from Lon Lon Ranch as adult Link.
Twilight Princess has almost the game effect on he when i first seen her, only more bulkier and defined (although Eiji Aonuma has never confirmed that the horse was in fact Epona.. Her presence was missed greatly in Skyward Sword, and sorry no, Loftwing aint no substitute at all. I hope we see her back in Links next adventure.

So whats your favourite steed!!

Lagi from Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei

I'm sort of attached to the little dragon in PD2. Starts off as a baby and you really kind of feel the need to protect it. The part where he flies for the first time is one of my favorite moments in any video game.

Count on Ryudo posting Ruin and Despair from Darksiders. ;-)

Yeah, but I don't even like those too much. I think they are too clunky imo. I guess I just got used to how smooth it is in Red Dead riding a horse.

True.

However I think the best is Epona from Zelda Twilight Princess. The reason why is she is faster a closer relationship and finally can fight on horseback. As for Darksiders I don't like Ruin. Too clunky. I like despair better.

Arokh from the Drakan series.

Absolutely love this one. First time I ever got to fly a dragon in a game was with Arokh, and it worked brilliantly (Panzer Dragoon probably came first, but I didn't get to play it back then, and it was on-rails anyway). Wide-open environments, raining down fiery hell upon my enemies. Just a whole helluva lot of fun.
He also talked vaguely like a deeper-voiced Sean Connery without seeming like an imitation (and with in-engine "lip-synching," which I don't believe I'd seen in a game previously), and he could act as a sort of AI-controlled fire-breathing turret if you happened to get into trouble and lure a few enemies into his vicinity.
Not just one of my favorite steeds, but also one of my favorite in-game companions of all time.

Angelus from Drakengard. She was a complete juggernaut of death and destruction.

I also liked Epona from Zelda, the hog from Nier and the dragons from Panzer Dragoon series.

Dogi from Ys. Before you go HUH?

You honestly think with that huge body and their guy love Adol isn't going to piggy back? Course he is.

Wondering how long will it take till someone says Agro

I'm going to say it : Agro. I'm actually surprised no one else did before me. I know that they put a lot of work in the movement of the horse and it shows. For the first time in a game it felt like a being with an own will. Not something that goes left and right as soon as you press those directions. This made it easier to relate to I think. And they also build up a bond between Wanda and the horse during the game of course. Wanda depends on his only companion there.

I maybe in the minority but the controls for Argo just annoyed me. I know I know realism artistic expression blah blah blah but really annoyed me so ended up not liking the horse when every time riding it was a chore.
