THQ UPDATE Assets to be Sold 'Title by Title' on January 22

To the Darksiders crowd, again, Darksiders is a Vigil game, not a THQ one. THQ aren't the developers.
As long as there aren't any retarded distribution deals in place, Vigil should be completely free to just move their business elsewhere. The bankruptcy of the publisher doesn't necessarily signify the end of a developer.
If there's any demand, someone else could always publish it.

Again it's chapter 11 so that can still operate just fine and they already have a buyer which bought Vigil and the other studios.

Darksiders is a THQ game, because THQ owns Vigil, it is part of the corporate entity, the same way Company of Heroes and Saints Row are THQ games because they were developed, distributed and were conceived by companies owned by THQ.

Again THQ owns Vigil, that means they are part of THQ, that means their IPs are THQ property. If another company wanted the IP or studio, they'd need to buy it from THQ. Vigil cannot be published by any other company unless THQ allows it. THQ is not just a publisher they own studios (Relic, Vigil, Volition, THQ Montreal) if you work at any of those studios you're a THQ employee.

They belonged to THQ?
Well that was awfully dumb of them. Should have remained independent. They easily could have, considering the quality of their work.
Well, for the most part. I still think most of what I played of DS2 was kind of "blah," mostly due to the pacing.

Finish it. Really is quite good. Well except the final fight is a pushover.

I've a feeling WB will want to snatch up Darksiders.

As long as EA and Activision don't get any of them I'm happy. Infact maybe the same for Ubisoft? Basically keep them away from the Publishers that love a yearly[apart from the WWE IP of course].

So yeah someone like WB and Take Two.

I can see Square-Enix/Eidos trying to grab an IP or two. Obsidian's South Park game being one of them. Supposedly Del Toro is taking his horror game (inSane) to a "big company".

No, no, include WWE in that. A longer development cycle is exactly what WWE games need to break out of the rut they've been in for years. Give them a chance to actually fix the prevaling flaws and make other parts genuinely better, instead of papering over the cracks, putting on a new layer of shiny paint and sending it to print in the nick of time playing exactly the same as the last game.

Use DLC to keep the roster current, and spend the extra time working under the hood to improve the game's mechanics and actually evolve the series.

WWE probably wont allow a longer dev cycle[bar making the first of course]. But who ever gets it make it like the N64 games not the poor Smackdown ones.

You're right about the license requiring annual iterations, unfortunately.

SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain got the balance right between style and substance. They should be using that as a template going forward.
