God I feel like such a nerd right now...
I watched the video, all ready to nitpick and complain about how it all looks too real and whatever.

But then that music started as Barret and Cloud walk by, and I kid you not... I shed a goddamn tear.
My mouth curled into possibly the most joyful smile it ever has, I put my hand over it, and my eyes welled up.
I'll take it. I know it won't have the same effect on me that the original does, but who cares.
Sony just won E3 for me.

I never got that big into Final Fantasy 7. It's like how The Nightmare Before Christmas is to Hot Topic mall goths. It got co-opted by emo people who didn't play it when it came out. I used to have a mint copy of the game, but I have no idea what happened to it. I just don't feel that emotional connection that people have with it.

It's something you probably would have played when it first came out to really get that emotional effect from it. Other people who play it after the fact might acknowledge it as a good game (or just not really get it), but it's not the perspective-changing, childhood favorite for them that it is to someone like me.
My experience with it was always very personal, because I knew nothing about it beforehand and didn't even realize that it was this huge, commercially-advertised thing; I was in Israel at the time, so I went in to most games blind, and didn't know many other kids who would have played it.
So it was more like stumbling across something random that changes your life. It means a lot to me. If I'd played FFVIII first, I might feel this way about it. Or if it were any other JRPG, my feelings might be transplanted onto them.
But it was FFVII for me. So I go nuts and get weepy when I'm reminded of it.

Oh, and I totally get that Nightmare Before Christmas comparison, but I always felt that was the case for something like Mega Man Legends too. Most people hated that game when it first came out, while I was off saying "you're all crazy, this game is the shit." Fast forward to the 2010s, and somehow all these random people are suddenly all mad that MML3 never came out.

Not that it needs one, but a 3D, HD remake of Final Fantasy VI for the Wii U would be fucking lovely.

Surreal conference. I mean who in their right mind would predict FF7 remake, Last Guardian AND Shenmue 3? You would be thought of as mad. And rightly so. Crazy times.

LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2015) – At Sony Computer Entertainment of America LLC’s (SCEA) E3 press conference today, SQUARE ENIX® announced that it has begun production on the full remake of FINAL FANTASY® VII for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system.

Leading the development will be key members from the original project, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.
