Improbable Releases

Postby Mr357 » Tue Dec 08, 2015 9:35 pm

Might as well "build the list" like our buddy Gio Corsi at this point.

Already Announced

- Shenmue 3
- The Last Guardian
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake
- Psychonauts 2
- System Shock 3
- Nier 2

Waiting On

- Shenmue 1&2 re-releases
- Half-Life 3
- Skies of Arcadia remake and or sequel
- Dino Crisis Remake
- PSO2 western release
- KOTOR 3
- Resident Evil Outbreak 3 (or Remakes)
- Silent Hills..
- Dragon Quest VIII HD (not that watered down 3DS port)
- Proper MGS Remake
- Super Mario RPG 2 (or remake)
- The Last of Us 2 (pretty much guaranteed but needs to be said)
- Life is Strange 2 (with a different main character)
- A home console full on Pokemon
- Mech Assault 3
- Crimson Skies 2
- Crazy Taxi 4
- Space Channel 5 Part 3
- New Virtua Tennis That Is As Good As Virtua Tennis 2
- Streets of Rage 4 (with Yuzo Koshiro doing the OST)
- Phantasy Star Online VR (this could be the most awesome game ever!)
- A new Dune RTS (preferably by Petroglyph Games)
- Zone of the Enders 3
- Panzer Dragoon 3/Saga sequel
- Rival Schools 3
- Capcom vs SNK 3
- Sega actually releasing Phantasy Star in English again lol
- Star Fox 2
- Virtua Fighter 6
- A proper Metroid game (Federation doesn't count)
- Metal Gear Solid 6 (not that I want it but it's improbable)

- Beyond Good & Evil 2, of course!
- Jet Set Radio Future HD
- New Jet Set Radio
- Tekken X Street Fighter
- Grandia II HD
- Snatcher 2 - Story ended on a cliffhanger. Konami own the IP. Kojima vs Konami thing, Kojima supposedly getting pissed on Twitter about it getting canned.
- Vagrant Story 2 - Story was left wide open.
- Mischief Makers 2 - Just 'cos.
- A new game by Yasumi Matsuno - Dude hasn't done anything for a long time now. The Kickstarter game he seemingly has left.
- A new game by Hiroyuki Ito - Been a decade since FFXII now...
- A new game by Kazuma Kaneko - MIA
- Shin Megami Tensei 3-2 (hey, it's improbable, definitely my favourite SMT game still though)
- New Legacy of Kain (various projects over the years have been cancelled in this IP).
- The Silver Case in English. Fucking Suda man, come on, dooo it. Dickhead cancelled the DS port.
- New Ivalice games. Especially a new Final Fantasy Tactics.
- Breakdown. Unless Namco decide to make a VR game out of it.

Crazy Taxi 4
Space Channel 5 Part 3
New Virtua Tennis That Is As Good As Virtua Tennis 2

I was gonna include Unreal Championship 3 but Overwatch seems to carry on the tradition of first-person shooting and third-person melée combat of UC2.

Kung Fu Chaos 2 :'(

I dunno, I wouldn't really consider Half-Life 3 or The Last of Us 2 "improbable." If anything, they're inevitable. Both are pretty much confirmed in an unofficial capacity. It's only a matter of time.

I'd say Yakuza Zero actually being localized was improbable as hell, but here we are with an announcement and everything.

Man, I really dont get the paranoia surrounding seemingly each Yakuza installment everyone starts wondering if we will continue getting the next game when its announced (I remember it for 2, 3, 4, 5, dead souls)... yet some how one way or another we have gotten all the main entries (and I would say 0 is also a main entry) and a spin off in dead souls. I am just curious what the doubt behind it is at this point? especially after rallying to get Y5 done, I think its clear that Sega knows we want these games. Idk im just not that surprised by it anymore.

Anyways, my list is more of a "wishing for".

As far as we know, Half-Life 3 isn't happening. Valve refuses to talk about it, and Gabe has implied many times in recent years that the employees have no motivation to work on it. Perhaps if/when Source 2 is finished they'll finally do something with Half-Life.

- Phantasy Star Online VR (this could be the most awesome game ever!)
- A new Dune RTS (preferably by Petroglyph Games)

I consider all of these ideas to be highly improbable. Especially Phantasy Star Online VR, it's the game I want to see most out of the three, it's just a question of whether modern VR tech is ready to handle a full-fledged MMORPG. Still, after everything I've seen this year, more than a few of the games mentioned in this thread might be possible after all.

The panic pops up every time because they make it very clear that it's not a sure thing, simple enough. The process may have repeated every time, but that's because every time its localization really is up in the air. This isn't Final Fantasy, where we can just know from the onset that it'll be available in every language known to man. Despite everything, it's still a pretty obscure series with obviously limited appeal outside of Japan. And with Sega being how they are, you never know when they'll decide to just stop trying to make something work. We've pretty much already seen them do it with Phantasy Star and Shining Force.
And honestly, we really have missed enough of it to leave things in doubt. Neither samurai-based entry came over (even though a samurai setting seems like the obvious shoe-in for localization), nor have either PSP release (which were much smaller and would have required far less work than its console big brothers). And with every entry seemingly growing in size and becoming even more graphic-centric with their use of kanji (which, remember, was the main reason so much content was cut from Y3), it continues to be in doubt.
I really think the only reasons we've been lucky enough to see as many as we have, is because it's a Sony exclusive. Sony like having their exclusives, so I think they've probably been the ones pushing a bit over the years to keep them coming.

I think they've turned a corner though. Atlus are the ones localizing Zero (which, no, is not a main entry; it's a side-story), and with localization being Atlus's specialty (it's actually the only thing the western branch does) Sega probably won't mind dropping Yakuza duties on them from now on.
Plus, the very fact that Zero was confirmed before Y5 was even released tells me that preorders for Y5 must have been pretty damn good to justify it, so the series has obviously gained a bit of traction.
I won't worry about the series being localized anymore, but I think all the worrying that's come before was fully justified.

-Zone of the Enders 3
-Panzer Dragoon 3/Saga sequel
-KOTOR 3
-Rival Schools 3 (I treat the JP only update to the first game like I would Super Street Fighter, not a true sequel, so Project Justice is the second in my eyes)
-Capcom vs SNK 3
-Sega actually releasing Phantasy Star in English again lol

Have to say Nier 2 seemed pretty improbable. So there's that.
Also Disaster Report 4.
Oh, and I guess you could count Nioh as well. I saw stuff for it years ago, and then it was cancelled. Something like that being resurrected almost never happens.

Not only that, but it requires special chip that makes it unplayable on SD2SNES (one of very few games) -- however... unlike the other games that don't work on my flash-cart, it never had an official release. So I can't just go out and buy the original cart.

:( I really want to play it on console... :(

Bob's Game

I liked the guy antics, and the concept seemed pretty cool.
