2015 - The Best Year For Game Announcements Ever?

Postby Henry Spencer » Thu Dec 24, 2015 2:37 pm

Saw this list on NeoGAF, re-edited it to match it up more. It's just so we can put things into perspective better. Crazy thing is I want to play like 80% of these games below, which is more than I would normally say...

The Last Guardian re-introduced
- Final Fantasy VII Remake announced
- Shenmue III announced
- robot dinosaurs are cool as shit, Horizon Zero Dawn announced
- Dark Souls 3, Miyazaki Directing
- Rare shifting away from Kinect, Sea of Thieves announced
- Fatal Frame V getting localized
- Star Fox Zero announced
- Mafia III announced
- Dragon Quest XI announced
- Gravity Rush Remastered announced
- Gravity Rush 2 announced
- Nier Automata/Nier 2 announced
- Star Ocean 5 announced
- Psychonauts 2 announced
- Yakuza 0 getting localized
- Ace Combat 7 announced
- Ni No Kuni II announced
- Xbox One backwards compatibility
- New Shin Megami Tensei game announced
- Shenmue 3
- New IP from Hideo Kojima announced
- Zero Escape 3 announced
- Digimon: Cyber Sleuth announced for localization
- Time Crisis 5 announced
- Dangan Ronpa 3 announced
- System Shock Remake announced
- System Shock 3 announced
- Resident Evil 2 Remake announced
- Shenmue 3
- Yasumi Matsuno making a Tactical RPG, Unsung Story
- Tactical RPG announced for Vita in English - God Wars
- FFXII HD Remaster all but confirmed
- the Banjo game we've been waiting for, Yooka-Laylee announced
- the Castlevania game we've been waiting for, Bloodstained announced
- Onimusha, Ninja Gaiden, and Souls turns out to be a tantalizing combination, Ni-Oh re-introduced
- ToeJam & Earl sequel announced
- Rock Band is back and it's backwards compatible with those plastic accessories and songs we already spent a small fortune on
- SHEEEENMUE THREEEEE!

What I especially love about all of this is the resurgence of Japanese games, there was a time when I was getting really pessimistic with the way things were going, nothing being localized and being left forever in Japan; big publishers turning down making the games that fans have wanted for years and years; sequels being Westernised/outsourced to Western devs and losing their original love them or hate them qualities. Now look at things.

And what i also love is how outta fucking nowhere a lot of these announcements were. If you were to tell me that some of these games were going to be announced even a year ago, I'd thought you would be mad, but now it's made me really optimistic. \:D/

Just look at that list. So happy for 2016, it's gonna be awesome. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.

Definitely. It's also the year I will remember emptying my wallet to the last cent on several Kickstarter projects, though most of it dedicated to Shenmue 3.

*You have missed a few titles that I'm really pumped about, like Divinity Original Sin 2 and Project Scissors: Nightcry (a team-up from the creator of the original Clock Tower and the director of the original The Grudge movie, just like the would be game from Kojima and Del Toro).

Happy Holidays!

It really is quite amazing. Just when we thought this gen was gonna be more western then ever, Japanese devs prove not everyone is down sizing and moving to mobile.
To be fair alot of the announcements are for remakes and sequels, but all those everyone has been asking for and want more than anything else.

Yep, and for some reason I think it will carry on into next year, and we will in general be getting more games that we want. I think its the direction this generation of gaming is going to, and developers are starting to be more mindful for "letting the fan pleasing begin". I hope so anyway...

Gotta say I don't think as bitter towards video games this year as I did the year before it. I'm still a little bitter though.

It's kind of funny how only a scant few years ago, everyone was bemoaning the fact that practically everything coming out was either a sequel or a remake, but here we are praising this year for the announcement of... mainly sequels and remakes.
Not complaining; I was never one of the people whining before (I have absolutely no problem with sequels and remakes, just so long as they're good games). Just find it funny.

I think what mostly everyone meant by that were nothing other than the usual annual games that most people around here had no interest in. LIke Call of Poopy, Madden, AC, and the games they just churn out every year thats starting to get old. Where in this case its mainly niche series getting sequels with cult followings, and thats what has made 2015 so special.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm pretty sure it'll go down as the year gamers were told what they wanted to hear.

How and/or why anyone could be annoyed about sequels is beyond my comprehension, unless it's something like Call of Duty or FIFA which are 99% business, 1% video game.

*Head honcho from development studio walks on stage*
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen!"
*Crowd roars*
"Tonight, right here at E3, I am pleased to announce a sequel to that fantastic game we made that everyone loved, was lauded by critics, sold millions of copies, and people have been demanding a sequel for! We--"
*Crowd boos and shits pants in anger uncontrollably*

I just don't get it.

Best year for game announcements will probably be anywhere in '90s.

This year, as previously said, was the year gamers were told what they wanted to hear. More of the same shit, but shit gamers wanted.
