Deadly Premonition's director Swery just launched a new Kickstarter project, The Good Life.

And here is the prototype trailer presented at PAX WEST for his then failed Fig campaign last year.

For more details go to the Kickstarter campaign main page.

EDIT: I just noticed that the creator of the Panzer Dragoon trilogy is the creative director for this game!

It looks beautiful, but I don't see it getting funded (via this kickstarter).

Also wasn't him working on another project ? Or relaunching a kickstarter was the "secret project" ?

Also the ammount asked is crazy high (well, less than a half of what he originally asked for, and even less of what the other ammounted), for a game that seems kinda hit or miss, with no real name behind it (really, sweary just hit gold with DP, the kind of B movie turned cult classic kind of gold).

Maybe I'll back this, but I don't see it happenning.

I'm not sure it makes sense to say the amount they're asking for is crazy high in the same sentence as acknowledging it's less than the Fig campaign goal, and even less than it raised there.

It's definitely not a game that gets funded in a day like Shenmue III was, but it's a quarter of the way to getting there in three days.

I think it's got a shot.

Most of the money gets done in the first and last days, it's high because it's a big ammount for a game in general (specially for one lowpoly made on unity), and it looks scammy that they're now asking the same ammount of money they got in the old crowdfounding.

These guys have a pretty similar style (and are not the only ones), and most of the stuff is 20/50 bucks. You can have a prototype of what they've shown for like 500 bucks (probably less).

Not saying anything... but saying something.

You might want to take another look over the content of the KS page.

There's a section that explains why they're asking for less (because they have partners who've agreed to front 60% of development cost), who those partners are (currently only indie label Unties has been announced, but they seem the key player), and why the partners aren't just funding the game completely.

You have no idea how many people out there thought the same about the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter back then and still up to today. Btw Yukio Futatsugi, creator of the Panzer Dragoon trilogy, is a beloved name and he is the creative director for this game. Besides, not many people may know it but SWERY worked on one of the best 2D fighting games ever, The Last Blade.

Isn't ironic Shenmue 3 fans getting to call other Kickstarter games a scam but when it's the other way around it is a sacrilege :D ?

Still happening, but that seems to be a game developed by Arc System Works rather than Swery's studio.

I know it sounded very weird, what I meant by "scammy" is that it seems like they just threw a number that they could achieve, not really having a very planned budget (while I can be pretty wrong, it's what most of the KS do, even the stretchgoals most of the time are just incentives detached of the actual money it could potentially cost).

It looks like something that Sweary has been thinking about for a long time, and I hope for the best (DP was one if not my favorite game last gen), but the pitch doesn't really does it for me (hell D4 didn't do it for me either).

Sweary to me seems like a guy that has his personality and his own take on design, much like yoko taro or suda51, but both of those seem to be more skilled game designers with more titles under their belt, as for now sweary seems like a guy that struck gold with DP, let's see if he can deliver more great games.

Not feeling this one despite the talent involved. Just not into life simulators in the style of Harvest Moon, especially with ugly art styles like that. I prefer detective games from SWERY and...something else from Futatsugi, but that's just me.
