Sega unveiled its own official Mini console, to be released this year in Japan. No word for a West release for now.

Not to ruin this for everyone, but this is being made by AtGames. The same people who made those terrible plug & play Genesis/Mega Drive things in the west. Maybe they'll get it right this time, but I doubt it. They have a long history of sucking. Shame.

It is a neat looking unit but if this is what the rumors say, a smaller version of the recent classic clone thing minus the cartridge slot then it is really nothing to get excited over. It's really sad that Sega doesn't honor its legendary system as much as it deserves and bring us something up to Nintendo standards.

^ Exactly.
If the rumors are true, then Sega is just being pathetic in regards to this release...

MegaDrive didn't do anything to deserve this. SEGA should apologize to MegaDrive, right now.

Sega ought to commission Nintendo to make their classic for them. God knows Nintendo would show their vintage products with far greater care and respect than Sega themselves. We've had excellent Genesis emulation for 20 years. There's no excuse for choppy music/slowdown and bugs that didn't exist in the originals in this day and age. A cheap raspberry pi runs these games with homebrew software better than these so called "licensed" products stamped with Sega's approval.
