I just finished reading Xenocide and Children of the Mind and I'm a little disappointed. I thought Speaker for the Dead was an amazing book and for the most part I thoroughly enjoyed Xenocide,.. up until towards the end when things got a little hokey. However, ultimately I really liked Xenocide despite its length (which I felt was needlessly long). Children of the Mind however was the disappointing part. Many truths that had been established in Xenocide were apparently forgotten by Card in the years it took to write this novel because Children of the Mind contradicts previous entries of the series. Many of the plot elements seemed to exist just to give characters something to do and the dialogue was very hokey at times. I did enjoy some scenes in this book (two in particular) but overall it was lacking and seemed like a rushed ending to the series. I don't regret reading it because of the attachment I have to the characters in this series and the fact that I really wanted to know how their story came to a conclusion. It wasn't terrible, just not nearly as good as the other books. I'm not sure if I should read Ender's Shadow and the rest of the Shadow Series now or put it on hold for a while.

Thanks for the mini-reviews.

Might read Speaker for the Dead in the future.

It's a really good read and it's a great book that drew me in, perfectly shows off the amount of excess in the era of the 80s...and what it was lke being a young man in that era [and how he ruins his life]. It was adapted into a film with Michael J. Fox which I shall be watching after reading this (although, it does actually spoil a few major plot twists from the very beginning, instead of revealing them later on into the storyline).

Roughly 60% of the way through on my Kindle. Brillaint read. Recommended for fans of Fantasy and especially Lord of the Rings. It's not as difficult a read as LORT, but in terms of characterization, it's definitely superior. If you're interested in the excellent TV show that's currently on HBO, this book, or show, definitely does the authors work justice.

I want to read the book before watching the series, so by the time the DVD set comes out on DVD, I should have finished book 1 [I'm currently 100 pages into it], Game of Thrones, hopefully. No idea if the series is getting a season 2 based on the second book?

Late reply, but Season 2 is already in production and will be available next year.

My guess is that HBO will continue with George's work for the next few years, as long as the writing continues. I am halfway through A Clash of Kings (book 2) and the storyline is just as good. Some of the reviews have put me 'off' slightly from Book 4 and 5 but I still look forward to reading them. Fantasy is the hardest genre to write, and if George has writers block, which is understandable, then we may or may not see an epic conclusion to his work. Seven books is a lot, and whether the TV show can continue that far will remain to be seen. I hope it does, because HBO are the masters of TV. The first season was a faithful adaptation to the novel. I'm looking forward to more.

I'm a huge fan but I'm actually doing research on Cobain. Reason being is that my 4th script will be a biotopic about him and his tenure with the band. Its one of those things I've been seriously considering for a few years and decided to go for it after I'm done with my 3rd script.

In a perfect world, i'd go to Aberdeen and interview all of his living friends and relatives. Including Krist, Chad, and Dave. Also would love to visit the bridge he claimed to have lived under which was the inspiration for "something in the way".

Started reading Troy Rising series by John Ringo. I'm on chapter five of Citadel. It got broing. Maybe I'll pick it up again to see if it gets exciting.

Something in the way is one of my favourite Nirvana songs. So powerful, he just lets his heart open up in that song.

This is a really good book. Very insightful and has more material than I knew before.

It also has tons of little goodies in it too like reproductions of postcards he drew for relatives, an In Utero mask, a CD of him reading from his Journals, and more. Totally worth the money.

Be getting this on Thursday.

Also about to finish Heavier than Heaven. It's a pretty bad book compared to Come as You Are. Quite a bit of Courtney Love ass kissing and the guy who wrote this makes us want to believe HIS point of view rather than leave it up to the reader to decide for themselves.
