Didn't they say they would start a full scale civil war if NI was ever unified with Ireland too? tbh I would almost feel guilty if we gave NI back to Ireland in its current state considering all its problems and Ireland is only starting to recover itself.

I saw what happened to the value of the GBP... yikes. I dont know any of the details on the situation honestly, but I hope everything works out for the best.

So is Britain going to go tyrannical again and start trying to take over the world like the good ole days with this move? Cause that would be pretty epic plus im pretty sure I have enough british isles blood to pass as a native and join their side... I just need to work on my insults and i'll fit in perfect there :D

Markets are always volatile during uncertain world events so it's not too worrying for now.

That's a scary possibility because Northern Ireland problems have ran for hundreds of years, and in this small part of the world, the notion of peace has only existed for less than 30 years. Scotland have had hundreds of years to mend their gaps and let time do it's thing, and they still can't pull off its own independence. We are years behind Scotland and hatred is still too fresh in people's minds. I don't care who you are, if you are sound, two thumbs up from me!! I'm Irish, you are English, soke people here are Northern Irish. I don't care I respect that. But a lot.... a LOT of people don't.

But the big thing for me is I have a dinner date in Japan in just over 2 months, and I'm not bullshitting, it could be in jeapordy. The pound did fucking plummet. Flight prices have gone up in the last 24 hours and I dont even want to check the value of the Pound against the Yen. I toyed with the idea of staying in capsule hotels whilst in Japan as a laugh, but it could very easily be a reality now. I'm trying not to think about it too much for now, but time is short for the pound to crawl back up again.

Want to hear the mindset of these people? Context to the story is yes Belfast is in Northern Ireland which is part of the UK. For years the Union Jack has flew above the city hall in the centre of town. It was taken down a few years ago at the vote of the council, which is mixed. Democracy. The Ireland flag isn't flown about it. No flag is. We cont complain. But for years the protestant/unionist people have been protesting to have the flag reinstated, and the very first caller into Radio Ulster was since the UK stood together as a country, the flag should be put back up. Not kidding!!

I've heard the stories off my family since my father's family are Irish (from both sides) & Scottish. Guess if Scotland do bow out I can claim dual citizenship, ha! I guess my liberal thoughts on Ireland and wanting to see them unify is down to having family from both sides and how they feel about it. I have heard off them that there's more hope for a peaceful future now than in the 90s, which was a tense time. That's not saying much, I guess, but still. The views I've heard off them is they just want to move on now but unfortunately there's still lots of people there who aren't cool with that. It's a shame. Anyway, any talk about that in the news at all, is good news anyway.

God no. You only have to look at what happened in the likes of India, America (and Canada and Australia), China, Singapore, then you have situations like Gibraltar, Ireland still hates us, Argentina still hates us, Scotland still hates us, French hate us, Middle East hate us, Pakistan hates us, Africa hates us the list goes on and on. We did irreparable damage in those areas that are still fucked now. That's not to say we did only bad things (we abolished the slave trade in British ruled Sierra Leone in the 1800s). Russia seems to be one of the few that forgave us officially, I think. (India too, I guess...kinda).

And I don't blame any of them. They're all right in their own way. We damaged those countries a long while ago (or not so long ago, in some cases).

We can joke all we want about these things but let's be honest here, we did a lot of damage around the world because of our bullshit. Not that I don't find the whole thing fascinating (since history is a secret passion of mine) but yeesh, looking at most of that stuff we pulled over the years is embarrassing. The whole "we must make everyone like us" colonization ripple effects can still be seen now, even after all of these years later. It is kind of amazing in a way. I sincerely think we have learnt our lesson now though. Hopefully. I've never been a nationalistic type anyway. It's really time for the UK as a whole to reflect what sort of future they want and to seize it, either together or alone, it's a brave new world out there.

Anyone watching BBC news right now???? This fucking DISGUSTS me.

So our First Minister is a very staunch protestant. For God and Ulster. God save the queen. Campaigned to LEAVE. She has said no to a border poll. Protestant people of Northern Ireland will never want to live in a United Ireland......

BUT

BBC just broke the news of the amount of protestant unionists applying for passports today! So they will never live in Ireland, call the Tricolour their flag. Want to burn pyres on the 12th of July and cheer about killing Irish Catholics. God save the Queen. BUT IT'S OK TO HAVE AN IRISH PASSPORT????

Hannan almost had me vote Leave. I hope for all our sakes that he's right, and would vote for him for PM over Farage or Boris.

The self righteousness and better-than-you attitude of the remain voters (if most of them bitching online calling everyone who doesnt agree with them "idiots" even voted) is really starting to get on my nerves. We lost but that doesn't mean it's the apocalypse and there is absolutely nothing good that can come out of this.

Yeah I know, it was a bad joke. I think alot of people realize Britain was drunk off power tripping for a long time and made many mistakes during those years that just wasnt good for the world. But yeah, I could imagine much irreversible damage was done.

There has been a complete failure on both sides to understand the other's grievances. While I voted remain, I got in an argument with an aunt who voted the same because she wanted to remove her mother-in-law on Facebook because she voted leave.

The image of Bob Geldof telling fishermen to fuck off did no help for the Remain campaign at all. I spoke with a relative who is an architect who told me they have failed for years to hire skilled builders from the UK simply due to the lack of them; voting Leave will not guarantee prosperity for native Brits in industry.

The Remain campaign and the EU itself failed again and again to convince the public of the benefits of staying. The UK was envied for its unique position in the EU to influence its course, and with that now seemingly gone, will other countries be so willing to trade/negotiate with us?

The same people who have been ebulliently shouting "Fuck the élite!" have been quick to say "They will sort everything out", implying they hope people smarter than them will right the ship...

Remain was guilty of conflating the EU with Europe; as Hannan said, supporting the EU because one is fond of Europe would be equivalent to saying one supports FIFA because they like football.

Leave was guilty of fudging the money that would be available to the NHS upon leaving the EU.

I'd vote for a Europhile Eurosceptic like Hannan to unite the Kingdom.

Yep. That what was so historic about the Good Friday Agreement in 1994. The EU sanctioned dual nationality rights to Northern Ireland.

Pre 1994, no matter how many times I vocally said I was Irish, legally, I was British by nationality. I could only apply for a British passport. Since Northern Ireland is a British sovereignty, I was British no matter what I said.
But finally, anyone who considereal themselves Irish could finally be legally and globally recognised as an Irish citizen, and apply for an Irish passport. I come from Belfast, in the North of Ireland. I've held an Irish passport since then.

Of course, Unionists would hold a British passport and be proud to be a British citizen. I had no problems with that. I respect that. But they would spit on an Irish passport, burn the Tricolour (which they will do in 2 weeks on the 12th July), never recognise a unified Ireland and will always be British. But today, despite all of that, it's now ok for them to apply for an Irish passport so they can claim to remain an EU citizen. The hyprocracy of it is absolutely disgusting.

ah that's interesting. I would have thought most northern Irish catholics pre 1994 could apply for citizenship via Ireland's ancestral citizenship laws like I can and probably will now.

Well actually they probably could (I'd need to really check) but I'm near sue they couldn't. Even if they could it would have cost some serious money to do so, and also legal loopholes with proof of identity and ownership of address. Either way no one did as far as I know.

But since 1994, it became as simple and as easy to apply for an Irish passport and finally be recognised as Irish. I find it interesting also. That's why I have never carried a hatred for English, Northern Irish, Unionist or Protestant people. I love the intrigue of it all. I also respect culture, but I do feel a lot of unionist protestants here are under educated and bigoted. In 2 weeks they will build huge pyres and burn them draped in the Irish flag, and sing songs of hatred. Like this:

Image

What gets me the most is friends in work with 365 days of the year.... Nice decent people, will go to this and happily watch it burn. Watch my national flag burn. But now they want to be an Irish citizen to be part of the EU. It's the hyprocracy that gets me.

Want to hear the funniest thing about this hyprocracy? Because the Unionist people called this part of their "culture"? The EU gives them 4 million a year to build these across Northern Ireland every 12th July!!!! Yea!!! See what happens to that money now.
