Favorite works?

I'm not familiar with his entire body of work but I freaking love Eyes Wide Shut and The Shining. And to a lesser extent Clockwork Orange and Lolita.

Add to that Full Metal Jacket, Paths of Glory, and Spartacus. 2001 had its moments of genius too.

^Thoughts on A.I. Artificial Intelligence? At least a third of that film was a Kubrick movie (Spielberg used Kubrick's production team, his screenplay and concepts). Being such a fan of his work [I've seen Full Metal Jacket, 2001, The Shining, A Clockwork Orange and Spartacus so far] I've still got a ways to go with regards to seeing all of his films and I'm trying to stretch it out as long as possible. Nobody made films like him.

I love AI but it's more of a Spielberg film than a Kubrick film even though there are many Kubrick-isms scattered around like the themes, acting style, and even camera placement/movement.

And yes, no one made films like Kubrick (David Fincher may be the closest equivalent) and that's what makes them so great. But there are times where I have to be "in the mood" to watch them cause he filmed them in such a strict manner that it feels like he's forcing his perspective onto you.

There are a couple more films I need to see in their entirety like Barry Lyndon, Dr. Strangelove, and The Killing. What i'm absolutely fascinated with though are his unrealized works, like Aryan Papers which would've been a holocaust film. A Kubrickian Holocaust movie? That would've been too much.

Edit: To make matters worse my local takeaway's sold up. First order from them n they gave me naan instead of pitta bread.

Firstly I hope this post doesn't alarm anyone. I am fine now, and will be going to the GP tomorrow for some advice.

But last night my best friend had to go to my parents house because I was seriously depressed. To the extent that I was questioning taking my own life. I very much doubt that I would, but it was the closest I've came when giving it some thought. Even before I left to go travelling I have been a depressed person. Not just in a sad mood, but constantly down and depressed so much where you cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel. My job, my accommodation, financial status, family life, single. Each day becomes much more of a chore, where you cannot find the happiness in anything. It's hard to describe in one way, but makes simplistic sense on another. Anyways, I had a phone call with my parents and talked through some stuff but they were not really much help. My mum just shouted that everyone goes through problems, and my dad wanted me to go for a beer, which was also a bad idea because alcohol is a depressant.
Today I chatted with my best friend and I am not sure where I go from here. I will see what the doctor says tomorrow. I am also seeing a girl I really like, but what's odd is that for years of wanting a girlfriend, I don't have much interest in her. Again, I cannot see the happiness in meeting her.

We shall see how the week goes since I am off work. Hopefully this has just been a wakeup call. Just wanted to keep you guys updated.
