@mitts
Hah! No nowhere near mormon. I'm Christian if I were to label myself, but far far away from the nut jobs that seem to rule the spot light these days in America.

Thing about being "way too nice" is just my up bringing I guess. Moving around multiple times, having to constantly make new friends. You just learn to adapt to other peoples opinions and I think id say im just more respectful then most. I try to avoid arguements and get a few drinks in me and ill hold debate but ill always keep it respectful. I guess thats why I like Japanese society alot.
Also my dad loves to argue over everything so id avoid confrontation alot growing up. Before I moved to Japan he tried to rile me up in a political debate even though he knows I hate politics. He's a raging Fox News conservative loyalist and I consider myself a moderate but he thinks im some crazy hippie commie liberal even though I think Capitalism is the foundation for human advancement.

Anyways, ya you know ill just do the Ustream thing when I feel like it. Alot of people enjoyed it. Cant count the number of friend requests and positive messages I got and am still getting. I'll just continue trying to Ignore the ignorant, maybe learn to be more of a dick and if all else fails, ban them and then ban myself. lmao..good times.

Can someone explain to me what the fuck this dumbass ice bucket thing is? This shit keeps popping up on my facebook feed and seemingly everywhere else I go on the internet, but I refuse to click on any of the videos because I try to avoid this "trendy" bullshit as much as I can.
I understand that it's supposedly "for a good cause" or whatever, but what fucking good does dumping cold water on yourself do? That's the only thing I want to know.
What good does a celebrity dumping water on themselves do?

Get nominated. Nominate three others. Pour a couple of buckets of ice n water over your head (celebrities are doing it wrong) Donate a tenner to ALS research. Anyone who refuses the challenge donates a ton instead.

Stop being anti-mainstream and just click one of the damn videos.

So why do the water thing? Why not just donate?

EDIT: Oh, and it's not about being anti-mainstream, I just try to avoid as much idiot internet bullshit as I can.
Like this for example. A friend posted this on facebook the other day:

Image

First off... why would we want to support breast cancer? I thought that was the bad thing.
And secondly (moving on from snarkiness and assuming they mean breast cancer research), how is not wearing a bra gonna do anything at all for breast cancer research?
Hint: it ain't gonna do shit.
But this is the internet's version of "supporting" a good cause nowadays, so everyone can feel like they've done some good, even though they haven't accomplished anything. So yeah, I avoid this kind of dumb crap, and just pony up the cash when I order something on ebay and the option to donate to a good charity comes up.

You're completely missing the point. It's supposed to be a fun thing that's connected everyone on the internet. As a result of this, money's being raised for charity. It's not a case of "do this and only this to magically cure evil diseases".

I don't see what your problem is with it. Just because people are havin fun? Coz everyone's gettin involved? Or is it coz someone hasn't nominated you yet?

I believe intention has a lot to do with charity.
I had to look up what the ALS even is. In all of the inane facebook posts and yahoo news stories about the cause that I've seen, not once did I see anything mentioning what the research is for. Not once. I had to look it up for myself.
That's because most people don't know a thing about Lou Gehrig's Disease. They don't know what it is, and they don't genuinely care. The bucket thing is just something trendy for them to do while they pat themselves on the back over the vague notion that it's "for a good cause," even though the grand majority don't even seem to care what the cause is.
What ever happened to actually educating people about things like this? What ever happened to people supporting a cause because they actually care about it? It's kind of hard for people to genuinely care if they aren't really being informed about what it's for.
Don't get me wrong, if this has raised a bunch of money, that's great. But diseases aren't meant to be "fun." If you're going to donate to charity, you do it because it means something to you, not because Jennifer Lopez entered herself in an internet wet t-shirt contest. People aren't supporting disease research, they're supporting that.
I just find it silly. And it's disappointing to think that few people would be making any effort for disease research right now if it didn't mean extra youtube hits for them.

I had zero clue what charity the ice bucket challenge was for until I just read your post. People have been talking about it at work since yesterday and passing around YouTube videos and not a single one mentioned what it was for. I just thought it was the new thing people were doing this week. Glad to see some good is coming out of it, even if it is a popularity stunt for some.

And for the record, I am a full supporter of NO BRA DAY on October 13th. All the ladies can email me if they are looking for a sponsor! :)

I did the challenge just before it became super popular (I know, how hipster of me) all I knew about it was that it was for charity for some disease. It wasn't until it started trending I found out 'ALS' was Lou Gehrig's disease through articles and some posts. I find it hard to believe out of every single news article or post that came your way, one not mentioned it. Then again I don't use Yahoo so I'm not sure what they're saying.

I don't see how it can be out of place or surprising in an age where we wear pretty brightly colored wristbands that symbolize CANCER or host a marathon for AIDS, neither of those things are relevant to the disease but they do raise awareness. People are actually apprehensive of charities unless there's a super sob story or infuriating event involved. It's pretty smart they did something pretty fun and dumb to promote a good cause, they've already raised over $40 million which is like more than double the previous year.

Yeah I bet some people don't care what the cause is actually for or if there is a cause, but in that case they got duped into spreading the cause that would eventually reach a person who does realize what it is and subsequently donated. I doubt the movement would've taken off it it was like "take a bunch of muscle relaxants and paralyze your body temporarily...for ALS!"...though I bet some would try after seeing that retarded fire challenge shit.

This is just it though, people don't genuinely care, but what does it matter? If donating money has become an actual trend, even if it's just a byproduct of another trend, then surely that's a good thing?

Also, as for you having to look up what it is, that's half the point. Would you have looked up ALS if these videos hadn't existed? I know I wouldn't. So let people have their fun, let them pat eachother on the back, coz when it comes down to it, money means more than goodwill.

Back in my day, we didn't pour water on ourselves. We pushed plastic cocktail swords under our fingernails while a midget went to town on our junk like a boxer punching a speed bag.
