I agree with this, it seems to be a trend in anime. Tenjou Tenge (another martial arts anime) does the exact same thing and cuts off when the real story is just about to begin.

I recall the anime Claymore had to divert from the manga in the final few episodes.

My dad just came to me and started talking about an Anime and movie called Winter Sonata, I don't even watch anime so he didn't get the idea from me, I was surprised as shit.

Did you tell him that it was based on a Korean drama series? At least I think that was where it originally started.

Diversions from the manga seem to be kind of regular. Prince of Tennis had the Seigaku face off against a completely different team at one point and the only way I knew about it was that there were extra characters I had never seen in the DS game I bought later on. I personally don't mind that as they've just taken a different route to a similar conclusion. However, just stopping mid-story (Initial D does this too) is infuriating. Come to think of it, Prince of Tennis kind of does that and so does Slam Dunk as they stop just before the Nationals. I now expect Area no Kishi to do the same...

I freakin' love Winter Sonata, but I only watched the korean live action version.

marathoning Revolutionary Girl Utena as I type this. Been awhile since I last watched it. Still freaking awesome.

Me and some friends watched the first episode of Ergo Proxy and Outlaw Star. We decided to finish Outlaw Star first and then watch Ergo Proxy after. Outlaw Star is pretty funny. I like it alot so far.
