^ I think it's pretty awful with poor pacing and flat and uninteresting characters. It has an "exciting" premise but that's about as far as it goes. I'd say avoid it -- but lots of people seem to like the anime so what do I know I guess.

I have seen the first episode and thats it, thought it was a highly entertaining first ep but then I stopped watching cause I couldnt watch the rest in HD on crunchy roll. Apparently the Blu Ray comes out at the beginning of June for episodes 1-13, but they are like $80 on amazon. Maybe i'll wait until I get them all on blu ray, i just wanna watch em in HD, but I doubt ill be able to find a stream anywhere for free.

I liked Attack On TItan, though I agree on the pacing and it being the flavor of the month when the first season was airing. For a series where any character is moments away from death if a mistake is made, the characters seem to have a whole lot of time for inner monologues ( a staple of the shonen genre that seems to have stuck around).

I think it would have been interesting if Erin
had died
for real
during the Titan invasion after basic training. I'm not saying it has to be a total grimdark ending where everybody dies. But what better way is there to display the horrors of war and how anyone can die then by killing off the idealistic, vengeful main character?

I am currently watching the latest season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure to get hyped for All-star Battle to come out in the States. It's living up to my expectations, though it does seem just a tad drawn out. I'll take slight drawn out and true to the manga version over the compressed OVA any day, however.

I've only recently gotten back into anime, so I've got a pretty large backlog of anime I'd like to watch. My sister's premium Crunchyroll account is going to be put to good use.

I really enjoyed what I watched of Attack of Titan (probably about half the eps). Thought it was a superb shonen show, surprisingly dark too. I can understand some people might have had issues with the pacing, but I came up on DBZ, so it doesn't bother me, and didn't seem any worse than most other similar shows. I need to go back to it at some point.

Just butting in here because the phrase "horrors of war" made me think of an excellent show.
Anyone seen Now and Then, Here and There?
That was a favorite of mine way back in my highschool days. Came out just before anime all started going digital and getting that new-age feel we have today. It's technically kind of sci-fi/fantasy to a certain extent, but it hits on the horrors of war better than most other anime I've ever seen, particularly through its use of child soldiers. Except for some of the first episode, whatever action that's presented is rarely exaggerated or flashy; more often it's kind of to-the-point and realistic. It's definitely a show that'll make you feel something. It overall presents a really sad, bleak world, but that feel is counterbalanced by its likable and always-optimistic main character.
Been forever since I've seen it. I really wish it would hit bluray sometime.

Prayers have been answered! Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods is coming to US theaters in August. I will watch just to see DBZ characters on the big screen, I heard the movie its self isnt super awesome, but still. I need to experience Dragonball on the big screen.

I dont understand why its only in select theaters for only 5 days, Dragon Ball is popular enough to have a nation wide theatrical release. We know Funimation is small (although it is the biggest name in anime), but they should be able to afford doing something bigger than this, plus the profit would no doubt be huge. Perhaps its because its a movie that has already seen exposure on the likes of youtube and other places, Funimation did have to buy the rights for this movie because they only own all the rights for the TV series and have had to acquire the rights for all the movies separately. Would have been nice to have seen them cut a deal with 20th century fox to get this wide spread. If there isnt a screening in Georgia, im gonna be pissed.

They probably already have plans for a home release really soon, so the theatrical release is just a nicety for fanboys in a few different major cities. It was the same for the Cowboy Bebop movie waaaaaaay back in 2001; it was in a few different theaters on the east coast for a couple weeks, but that was it. Always wished I could have seen it at the theater, but hey, what can you do.
And I don't really think Dragonball is a bankable enough name anymore for them to justify a full nationwide release, considering that anime isn't exactly experiencing the western "boom" that it had in the early 2000s anymore, and the fact that the live-action Dragonball flick failed so hard. The only people who would really bother seeing it are established fans from years ago, many of whom might pass it up anyway (most guys seem to hit a certain age where they say "cartoons are for kids" and don't bother anymore). Dragonball doesn't even have a kids audience anymore in the US, since Toonami is an Adult Swim thing now. It'd be a hard sell to get it released everywhere.

Actually, thats not true OL, I found out that its coming out in 350 different theaters nation wide and canada, its just gonna be on very select days (I think 5 different days only). I mean, Dragon Ball is in the top 5 animes in terms of popularity world wide, the exposure is not even a question. So the release is a little bit bigger than I thought, which is good!

As awesome as anticipated. It really helps that the studio are massive fans of the series and are adapting it true to the manga.

Finally watching Initial D 5th stage on youtube. Its insane how dedicated some of these japanese voice actors are to reprising their roles, this anime started in 1998 for christs sake. Then again, I think in general anime voice actors are very dedicated to continuing their work/characters when they can.
