Yeah at this moment most of New Orleans is gonna be under water, they think that high rises and the superdome will make it, but I don't know what else will be salvageable.

Yeah, I saw a live cam of people waiting in line to get into the superdome. I don't know how safe that is considering the high winds and how high the superdome is but I suppose those things are strong enough to withstand the elements.

n00dl3s said on the news there was footage of surfers hanging around there, I wonder if they're staying for the uber waves?

The official elevation of New Orleans is 12 feet below sea level (-12 feet) I think from what I've heard they have been saying 100 mph sustained winds in the city, with gusts to 120 or so...my guess is the Superdome could stand up to 200 mph gusts. They have a pretty good feeling that tomorrow morning the field level will all be flooded. And also they are talking potentionaly months before they can pump all the water out of the city. So a long time before people can return to their homes then. Another thing to consider though is that there are sometimes alot of tornado's with hurricanes, so who says the Superdome wont get hit by a tornado and the 20,000-30,000 people in there would unofortunatly die. It just seems like it would be a big bullseye for a tornado to hit.

Edit: I also just heard that New Orleans could see hurricane force winds for about 10 hours! Also they think the storm will hit the coast in about 6 or 7 hours, thank God that there is not much population on the Louisiana coast. It's just there is a metro area of 1.4 million people just inland that alot of it is 5-10 feet below sea level. Last I heard they were looking for about an 8am central time arrival around the New Orleans area. Also area's like Gulfport and Biloxi, Mississippi could get very bad surge and winds along with of course rain. They have some casino's on the water in those areas that might float out to sea. And Mobile, Alabama is even getting some affects from the storm, they are expecting the bay to overflow into the downtown area and 8-10 blocks inland will be underwater. Not to mention bad beach erosion even in Florida.

Another thing they are excepecting hurricane force winds through most of Mississippi, and tropical storm force through Tennessee. I'll try to find a pic with color now.

Well there was a chance but the levee's ended up holding most of the water back because at the last second the storm vered to the east sparing the city of the worst affects, so as of now (and for good probably) the city only has water in it from the rains. Which were about 8 inches maybe I heard. So nothing they cant recover from. I did hear that water got over one levee on the east side so there is a bit of water over in that area. And the Superdome got a small part of the roof ripped off but again nothing repairable.

On the flip side this all meant that Mississippi got hit pretty bad. The center of the storm hit the same place that Camielle a real big one in 69 hit. Dont remember the town but it was on the Mississippi coast.
