Actually, TenTails, it was a self-fulfilling prophecy on your part which inspired me to respond.

There may be a difference between killing someone in a battle, but no honorable warrior flaunts pictures of their killings. Killing, be it in a war or at home, is not something to proud of. The horror of battle is not something to made jest of. It's immature and sick.

I think you failed. Having a job means getting paid for it so they DO get money for their killing. And murderers seldom do it for fun. Serial killers do and they're a minority. Outside of war, most people commit a murder out of anger or a problem that arose. What's interesting with this is all these little kids on the net trying to act though while they haven't even seen anything remotely close in real life. Usually it's the type who would run to mommy or daddy when their finger bleeds. I myself am not shocked by pics like these since I've pretty much seen it all a long time ago.
The thing is, almost everyone can turn into someone who does things like these. Psychologist have researched this after WW II. Some Germans did stuff like go to a maternity, throw down the babies from the first floor and the guys outside tried to catch them on their bayonets for points. After the war they just became normal people again who never did anything like that again. War just makes many people go insane since values and norms become very vague on a battlefield. The constant fear of being killed pushes some people to stuff like this. But on the other hand, how stupid are those American soldiers that they actually take the time to send it in for pics instead of searching.

On the one hand it seems the troops weren't trained to deal with these situations, but on the other you have to wonder how much common sense it takes to treat people with basic respect and dignity, especially prisoners of war.

I agree with the part that it seems that the troops weren't trained for stuff like this, but the question remains why weren't they trained for that. I agree that it doesn't take much sense to treat people with dignity, but the thing is we have a lot of 18,19, and 20 year old soldiers who are every bit as immature and reckless as some of the college kids in this country. There are people out there who have no common sense or decency and the unforunate thing is that some are in our military and have commited acts like what happened at Abu Ghraib.
