The NHS is one of the best things this country has ever done and one of the reasons that so many people move here.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to call bullshit on that. We had to fight for my great uncle to even stay at hospital, they threw him out that quick, even though he was clearly on his deathbed. And having worked for the NHS myself in various office roles for many years, I can definitely confirm that the way the place is run now is pretty terrible. It's being run like a business and the workers are getting extremely miffed off with the way things are. There's so much paper filling exercises, so many managers and departments being centralised and erased for cost cutting that it's crazy.

Canada has the same healthcare you guys do, and they come here for surgery a lot. A lot of Americans go to Canada for prescriptions but they come here for surgery.

This is partly bullshit though. The NHS is often actually very fast. If you have cancer (as my father did), you will get a consultation with a specialist within 2 weeks, and a surgery very soon after if it's needed (again, as my father did). Don't believe all the anti propaganda.

That's great that your dad did. My dad had a stroke earlier in the year and was waiting three months until he had a scan of any kind. He had the scan then was called back again, since the results weren't clear, but since he found it so claustrophobic they left him alone for a further three months before giving him another kind of scan, he's still waiting on his results, six months later. The guy could have another stroke and could have anything wrong with him. Still up in the air.

Just letting you guys know it's not all it's cracked up to be, especially for me, having seen it from both sides, rather harshly, I might add. Some of the workers in the NHS are absolutely frightening to work for.

Complaining about having pretty good systems is kind of insulting to all the really poor people in totally undeveloped countries, or the masses of poor workers dependent on unkind dictatorships. Those are the places where better healthcare is needed most.

Which is true but you did say once we shouldn't worry about what other countries do. So I find it confusing that you're now caring.

Plus the same thing applies to every single privilege we have compared to what others don't have. We might as well be walking guilty everyday for the lifestyle we are lucky to have compared to everyone else who don't.

Deer Gawd, human beings taking politics seriously and debating about... healthcare.

It always amazes me how easy it is for a single person to suddenly get caught up in a fierce discussion about politics and the derivatives. This world was designed by the powers that be for the ordinary man to have an illusion of control. It's all part of the plan to force people into identifying themselves with political parties, which in turn shape their so-called morals. It's also to give them "the bitter taste of that terrible illusion: hope". It's like raising cattle.

Makes sense people wanting to make sure their taxes are spent properly since they work hard for that money. It seems more understandable people being concerned about their healthcare system as that is what looks after them should they get old and ill or just get a disease like cancer.

Then again we can just forget all that shit and get angry about Kojima making another Metal Gear game.

Go to just a Tennessee Titans forum and see how bitter malice and angry they are about politics. They want you dead seriously if you like one party or another

The irony being, it doesn't matter whether you're concerned about your old ass being warm and comfy while voting or about Kojima making an idiot out of himself as a storyteller. Your entire existence is absolutely disconnected from what's being decided on the level you speak of. Your rights and your savings can be taken from you at any time, both by fate and governments. But your entire life is based on believing that that the puppet is the master so I'm not expecting you to understand that. It's only natural for you to state the obvious while thinking it's witty. I'm here just to talk about VGs so whatever.

Yep no point in trying to make the world a better place or care about things that give us a better future cause it's all pointless and we're all going to die anyway, yatta yatta yatta.

If you want to believe we're powerless, go ahead. But I'd rather try and change things. I, in fact, believe we have more power than we even realize. So what if there are things that happen outside of your control. It doesn't have to stay that way. We've already proven we have the power to change things repeatedly throughout human history.

You can only change yourself, and even that - rarely.
