^Which is true, but I don't want it to be similar enough to get sued over. Especially if i'm getting sued over a hack show that never got picked up. It'd be a total bummer if one of these shows was a primetime or syndicated broadcast show that premiered but thankfully its not the case.
ARK was pretty shitty but Continuum is pretty good so far (even if the actress can't act for shit).

They'd have no grounds to sue you. Unless the scenes, dialogue, character names, or locations are the same (whether altogether, individually, or just here and there) they can't sue. Similar ideas are just that, and no lawyer that hasn't been hired by the top brass can work around that.
Besides, all you have to do is use a disclaimer stating that any similarities to pre-existing properties is completely coincidental, and steps have been taken to ensure that any similarities that do occur have been edited accordingly so as to not tread on anyone's toes.

It's true that an idea cannot be copyrighted but I read about frivolous lawsuits done and its just a waste of time and money even if they never go through. It happened to James Cameron for Terminator and Avatar.
But in any case, fuck it. I'm still gonna work on my thing.

If someone tries just tell em to fuck off n refuse to go to court. What are they actually gonna do? Call the police? Don't be so naive to just go along with shit like that. Ignore any letters or court orders til they fuck off and leave it. Not exactly like you're gonna be easy to track down or owt, and if they knock on your door, just answer it and say "nah, he's moved out, don't tell the landlord he's sub-letting this place to me."

Nah, I come from a family of lawyers so i'll know what to do. It's really the idea of time being wasted that bothers me. Even telling someone to fuck off is a waste of my time.
But like I said, fuck it. I'm still gonna do it. If need be i'm just gonna change what's necessary, which is actually good on a creative standpoint anyway (have to learn to compromise and think on your feet). To be honest, there's very little to actually change or approach differently.

Disney stole the Winnie the Pooh movie idea from one of my moms neighbors. Nintendo took ideas I had for a Zelda (tho they put it in a couple different games) when I sent them a letter when I was younger and more niave. Despite getting rejection letters. Have that shit copyrighted and stamped with every legal loophole you can so if they reject you take some ideas then you have a case.

came from a script for a proposed movie by an acclaimed indian-american director. Lion King is accused of
stealing from Kimba the White Lion. There are many more examples of this.
I'm not too concerned with this project, its just a bit of "shock" that's already worn off. I'm much more protective of DEUX, TECH, Cokehead, and my other unannounced projects that haven't been done yet in the mainstream or otherwise.
