Few tech ????? Suggestions wanted

In the future when I get my money(we talk to SSI on monday) aside from essentials and getting things for my mom and family plus dinner. I need a few things and want a few things.

Know any decent sub 100$ Smartphones that is pay as you go in the USA. Pref Android
My current phone just makes calls but the service cuts off next year.

A decent tablet 250$ or less that isn't confined to a certain retailer. (Aka The Nook & Kindle Fire)
No need here just curious if it's worth it

Is Asus good and would this do me well for about 5-7 years? In specs and durability
http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-G75VW-DS71-1 ... 9WYLUM78NK
I will be doing a lot of video editing. My current PC is crap

I need some opinions as this is a one chance choice. If I make the wrong one I can't turn back.

Don't waste any money on a tablet. Just put it towards the laptop you get.

If you get a tablet make it the Nexus 7 or Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7

If you get one of those you can skip the smartphone. Or vise versa. Getting a tablet imo is a luxury on top of a smartphone if youre tight on money.

It is a luxury, but mines is justified by the travel aspect. I have the Samsung 7.7, and it was easily the hardest choice i have had to make in terms of hardware.... ever really. Bit a laptop is a much better choice if a tablet doesnt offer the specific services that its made for.

Again for a smartphone, Samsung all the way. The Galaxy range is amazing, and for me, trumps its main rival, iPhone in every department.

If it were me, i would combine the tablet and phone budget and go with the Galaxy sII smartphone. Its the same as the tablet etc and id say thats all you need. There is the Galaxy sIII, but i think its worse than the sII. That phone has been my life for the past year. Best phone i have ever had, and will have an sII in 5-7 years, regardless of all the new releases that come out. For todays needs, the Galaxy sII is easily the best out there. In Europe anyways.

EDIT: Cool!

Thats the Galaxy Tab 2 not the Tab 7.7
The tab 2 is like the budget version of the 7.7
But if youre in that price range get the Nexus 7 Tab and thats much better then the Tab 2 and only $199.

Awesome and just to let ya know I won't be updating every year or 6 months. Keep it as long as it works.

Why the change of heart re tablets, you weren't that keen on them before? The advice of skipping a smartphone if you get a tab is excellent though, and if you instead get a crappy older PAYG phone you'll have a battery life that's now a wet dream to smartphone users. ;-) (I miss my Nokia for this. I do "get" the smartphone and whilst a lot of it is gimmicky, it does become an amazingly practical asset to have on you anywhere in the world. But at the same time, a crappy phone like my old Nokia, if you're REALLY stuck, can make a 999/911/112 anywhere on Earth that has any form of a signal, even without a SIM card apparently, and do it for 8 days more than the smartphone. ;-))

Something like video and website editing which you do seems quite "traditional" PC-centric, but at the same time, a laptop would likely cost a few hundred more than those tabs...

Speaking of which, you can now get the Galaxy S2 without a contract with a pay as you go plan. However I think only Tmobile is offering it at a decent price.

Yeah I won't get it if over 100$ . I have to spread the money out. As for the tablet I will go wifi only. Be mostly at home and the few times I take it out there will be wifi.

Silent Killer looking at that laptop think it should be good for a few years specs wise and is Asus reliable?

that's weird. the amazon page says it has three cores but it's definitely a quad core. I don't even think intel makes tricores. Laptop seems fine otherwise. Never heard of Maingear, but then again I don't really bother with custom pc makers, opting to put them together myself.

Cool. I don;t do desktops anymore as I have no room and need something smaller plus I take my laptop out from time to time. I just need something where the specs are decent for a few years and can handle my heavy mutli tasking and video editing. My current PC and camera can't to HD and when I did edit HD vids my PC froze a lot.

In any case I'd stick to the regular Asus laptop. That maingear one costs way more when you load it with the same hardware. About $500 more.

Well I decided not to get a real smartphone. I won;t have it in budget. Getting a 50$ LG tracphone that has a touch screen. Also because AXM said if you have a tablet don't really need a smart phone. I will get the 7 inch Samsung. Also one for my mom as she liked it better than the ipad. Still getting that laptop.
