I've only just thought about it, but it's kind of strange that I can really like an actor and think they're amazing in their job, but not be all that enthusiastic about their movies.
I'm just thinking about that because I just watched the 1995 movie French Kiss. It's just your average Meg Ryan romantic comedy drivel; enough to crack a smile here and there, but overall nothing that could even qualify as "good." Despite that, I think Kevin Kline is fucking excellent in it. I think Kevin Kline is fucking excellent in just about everything I've seen him in. And yet... I don't actually like most of the movies he's made.
Weird.

^A good actor can deliver a strong performance even with weak material and in the context of a poor film. I guess it comes down to that. Not that weird, if you ask me.

Good actors should be more picky with the jobs they accept, I always found.

I'm like that about Ryan Reynolds. The guy's just pure quality, regardless of the whole "He's just the same in every film" argument. It's kinda like what I was saying about Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Despite the "bad ones" (Origins & Last Stand), they're still worth watching because it's Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. But yeah, I defo get what you're saying.

I'm quite fond of that movie. Been yonks since I saw it, but I'd go out on a limb and call it "good" for what it is. As far as Rom Coms go, it's pretty much top tier. Damn, now I wanting to watch it right now. I agree with Kevin Kline love though.

I think the movie actually could have been great if not for Meg Ryan's presence. I don't generally have a problem with her or anything, but she's just so... annoying in this one. It's an odd contrast next to Kevin Kline being so great.
