Cooking

Postby whaleotron2 » Mon Feb 17, 2014 7:35 pm

I'm a chef in training at the moment and I thought I'd post some pictures of my meals that I have cooked up at college. Feel free to post your own pictures of your great meals! This is just a quick one from me, this was my second attempt at spaghetti bolognese. I think it turned out pretty well.

^ Inevitable troll post, I guess? Granted it's probably not exactly how a spaghetti bolognese should look but it's a really hard dish to perfect. I think I did quite well, considering I only used one jar of Dolmio.

Dolmio? If you're a chef in training chuck all those jars of ready made source out the window and make your own. It'll be much nicer and really isn't too much effort. Also, it may be a bit unconventional for some but I like adding a bit of colour to my bolognese and adding some extra veg into mine. So it looks more interesting and I get it all in one meal. Not sure how gourmet that practice is though lol.

what mue said, make your own sauce, never bother with jars.

I like cooking, it's fun.

Bolognese is supposed to be tomato based dish (it's my father's speciality; he used to be a chef), however from that photo the sauce looks brown...don't be offended though, the only way from here is up, since you're training, I suppose you'll be getting harsh enough comments off the head chef. Being a chef is a tough line of work anyway, don't know if the hours are still as gruelling as back in my dad's day. Are you absolutely sure this is the career path for you?

And yeah, Dolmio is shit.

Thanks for the tip, guys! Anyone have a recipe for the best bolognese sauce? I'm gonna try making my own.

I had a female friend last night and I made her this; shrimp in a white wine, mushroom and cabbage sauce with fried black beans. It was really good but it didn't manage to seal the deal with her unfortunately.

I had another go at a bolognese sauce without using a jar and I think it's worked out really well. On mue 26's advice I added some more vegetables. This time as well as tomato I also included mushroom, spinach, carrot and cucumber, and it tasted delicious! Thanks for the advice guys!

I don't like anything in my bolognaise except onion personally, but that looks far better. Presentation is important

Seriously, work on presentation man as that's all we've got to go off anyways. Pastas not the easiest of things to present and you're really meant to mix whatever sauce you're making in with the pasta. It does look much better in the last pic, keep it up.
