9/11 14th "Anniversary"

Postby Hyo Razuki » Fri Sep 11, 2015 4:35 am

So it's been 14 years already. One can say what one wants about the 9/11 terrorist attacks but that day, the world changed. Shenmue 2 came out on September 6, 2001, not even a week before the world was changed forever. There is even a slight trace of 9/11 in Shenmue 2 as has been mentioned by the Dojo before. See here: http://shenmuedojo.net/new/extras/s2xboxvsdreamcast.html

In the Dreamcast version, you can see a poster in Come Over Guest house which clearly shows the New York skyline. Empire State Building and the Twin Towers can be made out in the picture. However, in the Xbox version it was changed to just like any big city skyline.

Most people who were old enough to think for themselves in 2001 still remember what they did on that day and how they first learned about the attacks.

The attack on WTC happened at around 3 pm in my country's time zone. That day, school was out at around 1 or 2 and a friend of mine had made plans to meet up at his house directly after school to play some SNES. We were playing with an antenna splitter which would automatically switch back to the TV signal when you shut down the console. So we played for a while and it must have been around 5 when we stopped playing. As soon as my friend shut down his SNES, we saw some footage like this on TV:

I will never forget the dialogue between me and my friend right then. I said something like: "This is some stupid action movie. Come on, change it!" and my friend switched to another channel were we saw literally the same thing. He then got irritated and switched channels yet again but we still saw the very same thing on all stations. My friend then said "Looks like these are all news programms, dude. This is real life." to which I replied "You're right, dude! WTF happened over there?"

Thinking back about that day I still get a feeling of sadness but at the same time I feel kind of detached and numb, like it had happened in another life or even another far away world.

What are your feelings, thinking back now? How did you first learn about 9/11 and what did you do that day?

It's a footnote in history. Don't really care about it anymore.

Definitely was shocking at the time and changed America permanently, filling the vernacular with buzzwords like "terrorist", "Osama", and "al Qaeda".

What fascinates me most about it are the stupid Truthers and their nonsensical movement and also the carnage that happened during and after the fall of the towers. The towers themselves have been a point of fascination with me before and definitely after. But other than all that, it's just another day to me now.

Is that "9-11 was an inside job" thing still vibrant in the US?

To be fair, if US intelligence and authorities had done a better job, they could have stopped those guys who hijacked the planes. But then again, that doesn't make them part of the attack. I'm not even saying they were doing a bad job. They might have been just not good enough in that one case. They might have just made mistakes. People make mistakes on their jobs all the time. That's not proof the US government was in any way involved in the attacks.

New york's Skyline certainly is a lot less iconic without them.

I lost family here in New York during 9/11. Till this day, this anniversary fuels me with the need for revenge.
