Starring Harrison Ford as the man in the hat himself, and Spielberg Directing for a July 2019 release.

Any fans or enthusiasts here. What do you think?

I'm glad it's back woooh! Interesting to see Disney's take on the franchise.

The creator and executive producer George Lucas is not involved this time around, which people are thankfull for after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Personally, while that film definitely has many problems it's still fun, enjoyable and quintessential Indy.

Obviously, Disney are planning this as part of a franchise in mind, similar to the force awakens. How do you think they will extend the character/brand? Harrison is approaching his late 70's now. I still think in force awakens he was still great and entertaining.

Can you imagine a captain america crossover in WW2? This idea has been thrown around and sounds super cool.

Also, some have joked that Indy wilol find the fountain of youth and becomes Chris Pratt, returning him to his prime in preparation for annual film releases lol that's screams milking the franchise.

Going to be interesting to hear more about this film for sure.

I gotta say, as senile and juvenile Lucas has become, I'm going to miss his fresh, conceptual take. Please Disney, whatever you do, don't turn this into a rehash of the first film!!!

Thoughts? Impressions? Speculation? Come on in, close the door and comment away!

No thanks. Ford is too old to give it the action it needs, and no one else should be allowed to play the role anyway. Plus, as the Crystal Skull showed, the Indy series loses all of its magic when injected with a megaton of cg special effects. With a few small exceptions, it should be all practical effects or nothing at all. But you know that won't happen.
Basically they're just revving up to ram it into the ground.
So yeah, no thanks.

Very salient points there. They definitely need to tone down on the CGI for the next film and make it more akin to the new Mad Max film.

But what about the James Bond formula of changing the character every so often? Obviously, something like Doctor Who does this the best.

As for revving it, maybe but i think they see way too much money/marketing potential longterm as it was prior with Lucas. Indy no matter what will always come second after Star Wars for them, but i can see the expansion of the lore in other media such as an animated series be interesting. The TV series "the librarians" recently tried the adventure movie formula, though not very well imo...

I think rather than Star Wars the best franchise to compare Disney's Indiana Jones with will be Pirates of the Caribbean. Take a likeable character with familiar themes/tropes, and write whatever story you have to write around those to put him back in front of a ticket-buying audience every couple of years.

People won't be paying to see Indiana Jones and the X of Y. They're paying to see Indy.

Ford's coming back which doesn't make any sense. He's even older now than Connery was in Last Crusade. This better be a torch passing film. :-k

After the last SW film, not really looking forward to it.

Disney is only in it for the money and they'll do whatever they can to make it into a steaming pile of CG-infested, PC bullshit.

Heh, kinda like the idea of Chris Pratt as a new Indy Jr. However the last guy Shia LaBeof was Jones son right? I wouldn't like another Indy with LaBeof. I'd say just do a full reboot with Chris Pratt or someone like dare I say Joseph Gorden Levitt? Someone's gonna kill me for saying this but Levitt and/or Pratt is older now but still young enough to grow into the role over time if it's a new trilogy that will last until 202X.

Chris Pratt as Mutt was a missed opportunity.

After three Jones movies I think it's time we had an Indy Jr.

Chris Pratt gets my pick.

The last film showed that they didn't want to keep Indy in the 1940's or change the actor. It's not like James Bond who has moved through time with the audience and changed it's actor to keep him somewhat young. I know Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a steaming pile of you know what but I doubt Disney will suddenly ignore it, I hoped they'd ignore the Star Wars prequels but you had Easter Eggs like Ewan Mcgregor's voice. I just can't see them doing a new film with Chris Pratt or whoever else and ignore the previous films like the new Ghostbusters and it would be weird too stop mentioning his son who will suddenly be around the same age as him.

I just find the idea that in 2035 we could be watching Indiana Jones finding Atlantis with an 80's sidekick a bit weird.

If they want to do Indiana Jones with a new actor, all they have to do is introduce him as the original's nephew, who inherits the nickname. Like they probably would have done with Shia Labeouf's character if, well, y'know.

And have him, what... fight Nazis and Russians in the 60s or 70s?
Kind of negates the whole point of the series as a whole. Indiana Jones was intended to mimic old-fashioned adventure serials from the 30s and 40s. The Crystal Skull was already pushing things a bit by doing things in the 50s as it is, but doing things any later than that would just change the tone of the entire franchise. And then what's the point of even using the Indy name? May as well just be making James Bond by that point.

I'd watch a James Bond/Indiana Jones crossover.

It would make no sense whatsoever, but I'd still watch it. :)
