I enjoyed the Force Awakens, it was exciting to think "holy shit, a continuation after the original trilogy, this has been a long time coming" but now after seeing The Last Jedi that has dulled, it just seems like they are trying to throw all this stuff in our face to make it blatantly obvious they are going to make a slew of films and that we need at least 1 star wars movie each year by dropping hints here and there introducing characters and elements from god knows how far into the future of this franchise, this isnt comic book movies just concentrate on whats already there you money churning plebs. Yeah it seems like the modern "cool thing to do" inevitable humor is present, and i am hit or miss with most of it, maybe im just a star wars purist and want quality over quantity. I am more interested in the spin off movies at this point, Rogue One was interesting, and the Han Solo and Obi Wan movies might be something, but the up coming trilogies that are trying to hard to build on each other I may take a pass on now.

I dont really want to talk about all the plot points and story elements of The Last Jedi because there is honestly too much stuff going on and its partially a jumbled mess. They tried to hard to incorporate some things and also dragged some parts one too long. I think its a fun action packed film and I while I didnt hate it I didnt love it either. And I agree with most of the spoiler posted above, all fan speculation after The Force Awakens were all swept under the rug and it seemed in effort to just go the opposite direction for varieties sake, really bogged down those characters in the process too. I liked everything except the main story and characters, and alot of stuff didnt make sense, they really botched Lukes character, and I think my favorite character of the film was Benicio Del Toros. Fin just lost me as what direction he was trying to head in, and parts of kylos story were solid but then it seemed they did something equally stupid with him just as fast as you started thinking that.

If you look at how powerful and over the top all the Jedi were in the prequels (which was one of the elements I actually liked) the new generation of Jedi look like push overs, and that is especially true with the new trilogy. They didnt give a good understanding of how Rey really got so powerful, and shes the new anakin as far as I can tell (slave child mysteriously has incredible force powers with parent issues) Wonder what Reys midichlorian count was? lol

IMO, it is a very good film; decent plot, good acting, great action sequences, enjoyable and Daisy Ridley is incredibly sexy.

As a *STAR WARS* film, it is a travesty; FA opened up so many plotlines and made a ton of headway in which direction the series would/could go.

This film slammed the massive door shut on ALL of those plot points, introducing new ones that are confusing and pointless, IMO and while I don't care (really don't), it pissed off a ton of fans who won't go back to the series and Disney will lose out.

Not invested into the series enough or care enough to let it really bother me, but I empathise with the hardcore on this.

I think another thing thats too different that alot of fans are having a hard time swallowing is the fact that they are writing them movie to movie instead of thinking out the whole trilogy and it having a general direction from the get go. We have yet to see this approach in the star wars trilogy films before, and it is kinda making it feel like the franchise has sold out under disney. Its alright, dont love em, dont hate em, some aspects are cool, some not so much, some aspects I miss and some new aspects I wish they hadnt gone with. I think its important to remember these films still wont ever take away from the Original Trilogy and i think at this point I still like the prequel trilogy better than this one. I think Lucas should have been paid more attention to what he wanted for VII-IX, he had an outline for them and they were not used. It is what it is I suppose.

My best man, myself and his brother were sitting together. During that scene:

Me: "What a friggin' joke."
Brother: "What the ****?"
Best man: "That's Disney for you; ruining everything."

I'm going to take the controversial opinion of saying I liked it. :P
Though I wish they had left codebreaker quest and Leia flying on the cutting room floor to improve the pacing. I would have liked to have had more Luke/Rey time in its place. I didn't like admiral Holdo. I think Admiral Ackbar should have been the one to sacrifice himself by ramming the ship instead of some frilly pink hair who could have saved a boat load of problems if she merely confided in Poe her plan.

I don't believe Snoke is truly dead. I think he's in the same league as Luke at least and projected himself to Kylo and the others in his thrown room while he was somewhere else to protect his frail body. He can clearly the the Force on others across wide distances so it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

The thing with these movies is that nearly anything is reversible because the plot is written movie to movie. I agree Snoke isn’t dead. Kylo Ren just isn’t a powerful villain if someone who just learned the force can best him. We need a stronger villain for the next movie. I can totally see JJ Abrams resurrecting Snoke somehow. I think he intended Snoke to be the main villain for this trilogy and Rian Johnson said “Nah. He’ll die like a chump.”

I don't think Snoke is dead dead, but his body was physical. We saw it cut to pieces in the room lol. Lukes was just a vision that couldn't be touched. If anything he'll be a force specter or whatever you want to call it like Obi-Wan and Yoda. His death was very anti climatic if you ask me. The battle that followed was pretty cool though.

I can't wait for Abrams to come back and do episode 9. It really sucks in my opinion that he didn't do the whole trilogy. It would have been much better to have one cohesive vision throughout. But oh well.

They're not going to have a guy with Ackbar in his name perform a suicide attack in this climate. That's the only reason it wasn't him.

Here’s something interesting I just thought of. Do we ever see a Force ghost of a Sith? Does the light side have the market on Force ghosts? Can Force ghosts just stick around and train more Jedi 24/7?

Things could turn into the battle of the directors if they arent careful, JJ going back trying to correct the things he didnt like that Rian did with the Last Jedi, which has to be alot. I still think that Disney may have figured out after it was too late that they screwed up letting Rian write and direct this one, there was just that vibe when you read all the press releases about the future of this trilogy even going a year or so back, the fact that they announced so early they wanted JJ for Episode 9 didnt sit well with me, but the damage has already been done. The more I think about The Last Jedi the less I like and appreciate it. But we are all going to pay and see it anyway so who cares right? Or so is the mind of disney.

I was hearing all over the place there are petitions to disney to remove The Last Jedi from Star Wars canon and to remake the movie and to remove Rian from the Star Wars franchise all together (and to make matters worse, disney seems to think he should have his own Star Wars trilogy). Also apparently there is a petition to change Porn Hubs name to Porg Hub... yep.

If anything not only should it have been him ramming the ship in a suicide attack, but he should have shouted "ADMIRAL ACKBAR"! while he did it.

Saw it yesterday. Better than I expected, but I went in with low expectations from hearing everyone shit on it. Overall, I'd say I liked it, but I made a conscious effort to shut my brain off while watching. Even then, I still saw a dozen flaws. If I actually tried to analyze it critically, I could probably make a laundry list of criticisms and nitpicks. Since everyone has already hit the major issues, I'll just focus my hate on this bitch.

Image
There are worse problems with the movie, and if you've seen the movie you probably know that she's crap, but I'll use her as an example to vent.

Holdo is basically a bad fanfiction character.

  • bright dyed hair - check
I can't think of any character with inexplicably pastel colored hair in this movie or any of the other ones, barring some background characters who may have been aliens. Since she's clearly human and has no reason to to dye her hair, I'm guessing it's just for attention and to look more "different and unique".

  • inappropriate outfit - check
Why is she wearing an evening gown and jewelry? Everyone else is in practical attire. The movie starts at the rebel base in the middle of an evacuation, so you can't say she was just coming back from a nighttime gala. Leia can get away with is because she's earned her stripes on top of being literally royalty.

  • being told how competent she is in the first two lines of dialogue about her
The most damning evidence of all. We're told how accomplished she is (because showing is harder than telling), but all she does is act like a dumb cunt the whole movie.

I've never served in the military, so I'm probably talking out of my ass here, but I'm pretty sure that telling your people what the fuck is going on is a good idea. If the plan had sensitive information or if the plan would greatly hurt morale, I could see omitting parts of it. However, not only did Holdo not tell anybody her plan, she didn't even seem like she had a plan in the first place. It doesn't inspire much confidence if it looks like you're sitting on your hands like a dumbass while death looms around the corner.

Ignoring that her plan didn't need to be a secret at all, we learn her secret plan is to send everyone into some unarmed and unarmored transport ships and use the big ship as a decoy. Turns out she was right all along and it's a brilliant plan because Leia said so. However, somebody needs to stay aboard the ship and we're supposed to like her for making a heroic sacrifice. Except nobody really needs to be on the ship when you really think about it.

For one, the ship's about to run out of fuel and drift aimlessly into space. You don't need a pilot to pretend to go in a straight line and drift off because it's going to do that anyways. They have hyperspeed drives, but nobody's invented a brick to put on the accelerator? There's also no reason to have a person stay aboard the ship when they've shown that they have autopilot and drones that can fly ships.

So then her genius plan falls apart and the rebel transport ships are getting destroyed. Since the whole plan relied on stealth to begin with, you think she'd have realized the plan failed after the cannons started going off. Instead of doing anything though, she just stares with her mouth agape until around half the transport ships are blown up. When she finally does act she uses the main rebel ship as a warpspeed battering ram and cripples the enemy command vessel. We're supposed to applaud her heroism, but she was on the ship to sacrifice herself in the first place, so it's more like she finally got around doing her fucking job. And she only did it after half the rebel cell was wiped out doing her own stupid plan in the first place. I didn't feel bad at all when she died, regardless of how much the movie said I should like her.

She had to be somebody's pet character because she added nothing to the movie

Dishonorable mention goes to Rose.

Image

She wasn't bad in the beginning, but gradually grew more annoying as the movie went on. By the end, I wish they used the actor who played her hotter sister instead. The character still wouldn't have amounted to anything, but at least the scenery would be better.

Image

The worst part was that scene near the end where she does that profound-but-not-really "power of love" line that people are going to prop up as some inspired badass quote.

“That's how we're gonna win. Not fighting what we hate, but saving what we love,”

which would have worked better if they didn't show the giant laser cannon destroying the walls of the makeshift rebel base, pretty much guaranteeing the death of all their rebel comrades in the same fucking shot immediately after she said that line.

It wasn't bad and I got my fill of laser swords and space battles, but I'll probably never watch it again.

This movie was utter garbage. I cannot understand how people can criticize the prequels so harshly even to this day (still the cool thing to do I guess) but yet can still say this, or the force awakens were good movies, or even "ok" movies. Mind boggling. I would rather listen to Jar Jar binks on auto tune endlessly then have to watch TFA or TLJ again. The writing is just so bad, and the characters are just terrible. What they did to Luke's character was completely ridiculous. Sorry, rant over.
