what happened to Gui Zhang?

Just beat Shenmue again (:)). I've wondered since the last time I played Shenmue, but when Chai knocks that metal pillar thing down, what happened to Gui Zhang? It seemed, from the angle, that he kicked it before it felt on his leg, but he's still injured? I guess it was so heavy it managed to make a sprain.

Can anyone confirm? Because I wanted Gui Zhang to come with me to Hong Kong. I love the guy. This made me sad when it happened...damn you Chai!

that one always got me too. i think it was just a sprain but he started being a wuss and couldnt go.

To be honest i'm glad he got hurt, again the game isn't perfect so i think the pillar was intended to look like it actually crushed hie leg. I think we will Gui Zhang again in future Shenmue Games.

I'm glad to know you wanted him to come with you to Hong Kong.

Unfortunately, that heavy steel directly hit his left leg as you see here:



In fact, you can hear a bone-breaking sound and his cry in "Shenmue the Movie."
Obviously, that broke his leg and he may need a couple of months to heal. :(

Yeah, it is a disappointment. But not only would an injury like that take time to heal, he would probably have to re-train for a while before going anywhere.

Gui Zhang was my favourite character by a long shot, I really hoped he'd show up in SII.

Gui Zhang could kick Ryo's ass anyday of the week (at least in the first one) his fighting style is so much cooler. and he just looks like a badass. he could kick your ass while wearing a suit. props
