What and where is this... BETA?

These screens are of the first Shenmue supposedly over at Gamespot... must have ben a beta or something and they cut most of this for Shen 2..?

A crappy version of Kowloon Building Rooftop QTE?

WHAT THE.. at his HOUSE!?

I always see this shot, was it part of one of his dreams I missed..?

They're all just scenes which were either cut (the fight infront of his house) or modified (the stairs on the Yellow Head Building)...However, I have absolutely no idea what in the hell the first picture is of. :-k

Yea, preview versions of thegame are often changed by the time the retail version comes out. Im guessing Shenmue I was orginally meant to be more than just the first chapter. Shenmue I was probably going to contain everything up to guilin.

I think the first picture could be a version that was released at a game show or something where Ryo is actually walking around the game show area.

Yeah, I forget what it was called (Kiyuu probably knows)... but that one French site has shots of it and stuff.

It's called "Digitaliland," though it's called "Dititaland" in this page of Shenmue Master.

As I said around a year ago, I would pay untold amounts of money for a bootleg copy of that Digitalland thing!

I remember Shenmue was going to be released as chapters 1-6.
But after a few Delays one magazine reported Yu Split the game to release it sooner.
CHapter 2 as we know never made to game form.
And Shenmue II was just what was taken off Shenmue 1.
I saw those screens before the game was released and others we never saw in the actual game.
I just shrugged it off as Developer edits. :?

I guess I just figured you'd know, because you know quite a bit more when it comes to Shenmue than I and most people here do...

I think Mikec_ct is saying that he wishes he was able to play the Digitaliland thing. That would be pretty wicked.

Yeah same here!!! Even before I got S1 for my birthday, I saw a show on TV where they showed clips from the games, they showed the part where you fight against Dou Niu on the roof, they showed Shenmhua in the forest, they showed ren and Ryo falling down on the truck in lucky plaza, etc...

Then I got to play Shenmue 1 and when I beat it and the credits started, I was like "wtf??"

So for a preview style build they actually had a game of Ryo walking around Digitland at the actual event, how tricky Yu, how tricky..

The Digital Land environment looks pretty detailed too. Perhaps this was used to test the Shenmue Engine, or rather to demonstrate the engine's capabilities at the gameshow...hmm, perhaps...
