Postby freshjes » Sun Dec 05, 2004 5:41 pm

My dreamcast is in good working order but I cant even get out of my house at the very begining of the game without it freezing. Is the disc damaged or is this common to Shenmue on dreamcast? Help me out guys

I'm more inclined to say that it's his system acting up. Why? Because exiting the Hazuki house is exactly where my first DC system froze up which then lead to the usual laser assembly problems that we've all heard about.

Yea, just get you disc cleaned, and if that doesnt work, try and get a new copy, or new DC.

Its probably not the disc. It could just be the dreamcast itself. My one starts to crash every year or so, but you just have to clean the inside of it then your okay for another year. You can find the instructions somewhere on the net(sorry I can't remember where and I dont actually clean it myself).

I'm not really very helpful am I? :(

Same thing happened to me a while back, but it was before the very first video. It would crash everytime I played. I cleaned the disc and it didn't help anything, but when I put in a new VMU and took out the Puru Puru it worked like a charm. I have no idea why... :?.

If you try everything and it still don't work then i'll have a look out for my spare copy of Shenmue disc 1 and you can have it.

In case you didn't realise, I meant you have to clean the insdie of the dreamcast itself not the disc. You have to open it up then unscrew a board(i think its the LSD or something) then clean some pins with a a cloth sprayed with WD40 [cleans metal and stuff].

If that doesn't work then it must be the laser or the disc.
