I said realistic expectations; start with something small. Also, most proper projects take years to get anywhere.

I'm sure there's some more devs lurking in the ranks.

realist expectations still take a lot of time and dedication, people have jobs and lives so the little free time they have to work on stuff wouldn't be enough to make anything significant, that's why I'm saying we need more people as currently we are only 3 lurking the forums who have would be willing to participate in such a project

if it will take years it will never be completed, the only way I can see it happening is if we can find 6-7 people willing to work on it and complete it in a few months time

but hey if you're willing to look for a team then be my guest, I'm up for it and I pretty much already have an Idea of what needs to be done so at the moment all we need is a team

of course not, this is the engine of crysis, it looks bad mainly because he used exclusively realtime shadows, few other things need to be fixed too

Tell ya what. I don't mind dedicatin my down time to writin up a design doc for Chapter 2, as I still have some material for it after the failed initial attempt with Erin and Spence (or was it HL?) If the modders n modellers can get on board, I'd even be willing to hire Corey out of my business profits to do the VO work.

I'd need other VO actors, someone who's good with textures, a composer, mapper, concept artist, and at least two coders. I'm sure Kenny could help me with the storyboard, but I'd need Segata in an advisory role at least (I've never successfuly seen a project all the way through, so I could do with someone who knows the difference between a good DD and a bad one)

It would only be short and simple, so no fighting sections, only QTE. I've heard rumblings that you can hook up a Kinect to your PC and use it for motion capture, so unless anyone has free or cheap access to proper equipment, we'd either have to make do with that or have shitty looking animations instead.

If anyone's interested, let me know, coz until every role is filled, I ain't workin on it.

I dont think corey would accept due to copyright issues but count me in.

If anyone still has the boat model uploaded on gboys blog could they upload it again? I will need it as a reference to remodel it to current day standards, as for textures we could use royalty free ones or recycle shenmue ones if we can't find anyone capable of a decent job

I know how to animate also, you can send me the animated skeletons that you made with kinect and i can incorporate them in to the characters, as for the smaller animations like npc ones drinking etc i can save us time by just doing them manually, i'm pretty good with in game camera work as well so i'll have no problem reproducing the movie feel like in shenmue cutscenes

Okay. I'm gonna have to do a little research on the Kinect thing though. I'll make a standalone topic for the project and sign-ups tomorrow when I've got a little more time for it.

there are a lot of bvh animations on the internet, i think you should start testing them with yfrid's models before using kinect

I can see it happening if it's just chapter 2, that's about 3-4 hours of gameplay which most is walking around talking to people so not hard to do at all

as I said I've got the environments and a good amount of animations covered so all we need now is a coder and some people willing to do some VO I guess

Quite a big task to take on considering all that's involved. If you were going to get voice overs don't you think they'd want to be paid for their time?
