Would Ryo really be an Akira Kurosawa fan?

No. The modelling lacks the genius found in the original Shenmue. Modern 3D engines are also producing more 'light', paper-like 3D models. They lack something from the DC magic. I know it ain't happening, but I want Shenmue 3 on the original engine.

This deserves a Billy Mays thumbs up.

Surely we have enough people on here now to make our own Shenmue 3!! Cmon Wude and SC, get the finger out! Dorian can be a supervisor or something, but only after we send him to motiviation lessons. :)

Dorian would replace Lan DI with David Cage.

I would like to make something shenmue related but I keep on encountering problems with extractions and can't be bothered to remodel the whole game myself unfortunately

@south: You clearly have a purely scientific mind(set), which means you can understand how Shenmue's engine works, but you just don't get how Shenmue's art works. Shenmue's models are relatively simple by today’s standards if you talk about tech, but they are timeless and complex as hell as a work of art. The use of DC's hardware was genius in Shenmue, it made the game look far better than it technically should look.

Shame Dino was such a twat. He was good with 3D modeling.

He stalked Avrieal and trolled her and then posted endless pics of guys taking a shit. DUmb things like that. I don't know where his topics are but he mad models of Yamanose and was very detailed.

Thats why i asked, if he put effort into doing things like that, then why turn and be a twat. I remember his face from the pics topic, he looks like a bit of a psycho like.

sure I spend hours extracting and looking at the core basis of the game but I have no Idea what I'm talking about, I understand perfectly well how shenmue art works, it has detailed textures put on to low poly models to make them seem more detailed than they actually are, it also uses a technique where it renders only the on screen elements to push itself further than the limits of the DC, they aren't complex at all, they just have a good direction

Exactly. Irony doesn't work when you're telling the truth. The real irony is how you missed the point completely.

nah the point is that half of what you're saying doesn't make sense and when I explain to you how it works you pretend you're talking about something spiritual that mere mortals cannot understand

You don't have to explain kids stuff to anybody on this board. You should put that energy into learning how to read with understanding. You clearly can't if you don't understand the difference between "Shenmue's engine" and "Shenmue's art". There's a bit of spirituality to it, yes. Actually, Shenmue is the second best "spiritual" game I have played, the first being SotC.

another trick they used is using fake shadows by creating semi-transparent grey planes,
the rain/snow is limited around Ryo and moving with him, all reflections are also fake, back-face culling in shenmue1
the programming was just brilliant
