Why does Shenmue remind me of the holidays?

Why does it feel like this game is best played around November/December? I really enjoy playing shenmue with a cup of hot chocolate, Christmas trees and ornaments, while it is cold and preferably snowing outside. I knew this game came out around this time (November), but it can't be the only reason. Something in the game itself makes want to play it around winter season and this includes Shenmue II.

Is it the internal game changing seasons which includes snow and Santa Clause? Nozomi's white sweater?

Perhaps it's me and the game has been deeply engraved in my sub-conscious because I was playing this alot in my youth on the Dreamcast when it first came out during winter.

Anyone else feel this way?

i do see your point. i remember the first time i played the game was on december 31, 1999 (japanese version), and the fact the game was released and mostly takes place around the holiday season is what gives that connection

I'm assuming it is because of that first experience. And who wouldn't want to relive an experience that made them feel good?

Well a game with a rapist homeless Santa Claus who just walks up and down dobuita stalking women must be the reason. Feels like a normal downtown on a Christmas to me!

I always associate Shenmue II with summer rather than winter.

I get what he mean's though. Shenmue 2 is very green and you never get to Christmas. I think it's cool that they have overarching seasonal atmospheres. This is something Sega excelled at in retrotime.

Probably because Ryo goes on a trip to Hong Kong, and that most people who take trips do so during the summer. :)

I played shenmue 2 in summer and shenmue 1 in autumn the first times and i don't associate them with winter. But they are connected with a warm heart-feeling so i know what ya mean.
