Forgive me if this has already been mentioned but noticed Sega of Japan are releasing a card pack of all kinds of Sega IPs including Shenmue. They are being released from now throughout May, pretty cool! They even include Alex Kidd, pretty buzzing haha!

Wow. I did not know this. Seems Sega are doing all things Dreamcast lately!

They released a Dreamcast Backpack, licensed the Shenmue Statue, licensed the Shenmue hoodie and t-shirt, etc and now playing cards?

Awesome. I really like how I can see Shenhua in that picture there too.

Wonder how they will be made available? And is Alex Kidd in that montage pic I really wanna see what artwork they've used for him, can't see him though.

EDIT: Here's one of the lineups:

EDIT:

Awesome. Vyse and Shenhua. Good deal.

Now, can someone tell me what these things actually are/what they do? They're just digital pictures or what?

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but they're not real physical cards. Just virtual ones you use in the strategy game Samurai and Dragons. You have to have a Japanese PSN account and during limited runs you can download certain character packs to use in the game. It looks like the basic version of the game is free to download so if you have a Vita maybe check it out.

Here's a video of the game being played. It looks like some kind of strategy RPG that uses cards as attacks/etc:

EDIT: lol of course Shenhua is a heal card. I wonder what the crazy fanboys will read into her rarity being UC or uncommon. Could this be a clue that Shenmue 3 isn't too far off on the horizon?

Well, that just might be even more impressive than actual physical cards if they have to animate characters in a game.
But maybe that's not actually how it works. Do the cards just give abilities/power ups to characters that are already in the game?

Confused. xD.

Either way, not going to complain about any Shenmue related content.

I haven't been able to find a video of people using the cards so I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they animate them. They're most likely just skills and or power ups for your characters.

I watched a video of a guy buying them and its a freakin ripoff. You pay real money to get an in game currency which you then exchange for a random card from the pack of your choice. You'll probably spend 100 bucks before you even see the "super rare" altered beast card.

Maybe I was just lucky to have formed my Alex Kidd perceptions on the graphics from Miracle World, but every time Sega illustrates how they remember their old mascot it makes me embarrassed to call myself a fan.

The most accurate modern depiction of Alex Kidd that I have witnessed until now, comes from Segagaga:

[Why they did not choose to use the that?]

P.S.: Someone must do a Tweetathon demanding a true sequel of Alex Kidd in Miracle World, too...

We'll just challenge Sega to a game of rock, paper, scissors. If we win, they make Alex Kidd's Return to Miracle World. If they win, a giant weight falls on us from the sky to shut us up. (Don't worry, I've seen a mind reading stone on eBay - it's expensive but a damn sight easier to get than the one in the game.)
