It seems believable to me. In my experience, martial arts masters are amongst the biggest (and hardest to hate for it) advocates of rinsing people out for their redbacks. Don't believe all that mr.Miyagi free shit hype, that breed are dead now :(

Well, he had both the mirrors, and they're supposed to lead to treasure, so maybe he beat Lan Di to the punch by a good few decades.

Wouldn't that suck if that was how the series ended? You defeat Lan Di with several friends losing their lives in the process and when you finally get to open the cave or whatever it is that holds the Qing dynasty treasure, its just an empty room with an IOU note from Iwao.
Like when they found Al Capone's "secret vault".

I have a theory about Iwao and Zhao Sunming. Iwao's last words were "keep friends... those, you love... close to you." This means that friendship is something very valuable for him and he may have regretted that he realised that too late. Maybe he didn't help Zhao so his friend took the wrong path and it ended in a fight (or something like this). Remember, last words of people are powerful.

Very good theory, I could definitely see something along those lines happening.
Just finished Shenmue II the other day again. 1st time in 2 years and each time I play, the Shenhua thing just gets more blatantly obvious and weird. The dandelion scene where she makes them levitate and every damn hint she gives about being from another time period. I do wish Ryo would mention the random dreams he had of her. Maybe Shenmue III will explain all of this.. 
Is it just me or does it seem like they really should have combined Shenmue I and II? After playing Shenmue II it feels so short and linear.

Pretty sure it's been discussed before but I was reading about the 3 sacred treasures of Japan (sword,mirror and a jewel) Instantly thought of shenmue.
Ryo takes the sword hand guard to Hong Kong doesn't he?Though the sword at the end of II makes much more sense than the hand guard.He also possess the mirror.The jewel can be the yin yang piece that Ziming gave to Xiuying (not a jewel but just a guess.Could be a jewel that we have yet to know of)
