This can be found in phone calls file, maybe it's just unused phrase.. but what if not?

If nothing comes of Shenmue in March with the Yu Suzuki thing, then perhaps this year's E3 will add on to the speculation.

Read this on another forum today

Scary thought of the day, Shenmue had Hang-on and Space Harrier in. At the time, they were 14 years old.

Shenmue is now 15 years old.

I've been going through a long delayed replay of Shenmue I & 2, and a thought has come to me. What if Lan Di is Zhao Sun Ming? Lan Di mentions that Iwao killed Zhao Sun Ming in Meng Chun, but what if it's "killed" in same sense that Darth Vader "killed" Anakin Skywalker?

Iwao could have made a choice in Meng Chun to not help his friend, for whatever reason and in whatever capacity, that effectively killed the existent personality of Zhao Sun Ming, only to have Lan Di rise from those ashes. Lan Di does look considerably young compared to Iwao Hazuki, but in the Hazuki basement we came across a small white vial marked "Elixir of Youth," or something similar, that Iwao once told Ryo was used by martial artists in China. Presuming that it's an actual Elixir of Youth (not quite on the level of the Fountain of Youth or the Philosophers Stone of course), and not an ointment to keep muscle and bones limber, Zhao Sun Ming/Lan Di might have taken a quantity of it and retained his youthfulness.

Just a random thought.

I believe Lan Di was only 31 during shenmue. At least that's what his profile says.

It must be truly scary day when you wake up one morning a realise your the same age as Lan Di. But yeah, he is remarkably evil for his age. I would have had him more at 41, you need at least 4 decades to develop that kind of killer steelo, surely.

Well I guess that theory is kaput. I liked it, but it doesn't run along the lines of all the other theories.

One example of detail in Shenmue that I never really appreciated until now is the climbing of stairs in Shenmue.

Nearly every game I can think of just has the characters move up the stairs as if they were a ramp. Shenmue is the only game off the top of my head that bothers to have a separate animation showing the characters moving up each individual step.

Word. It always annoys me when characters glide up staircases like there are no steps on that mutha.

In the first Shenmue it annoys me how Ryo just automatically climbs the stars when you approach them. In shenmue II you can actually control him.

Well there are much MUCH more stairs in Shenmue II. So it was a good thing that they enhanced the controlls. I like how Ryo starts to go around the corners more easily once you get to Kowloon.

But in Shenmue I there is actually only one instance where Ryo goes up automatically and that is the long set at the end of Dobuita. The other ones, like those leading to the upper appartment floor can be taken manually... At least I'm pretty sure it was like that.

No, I'm pretty sure he does up them all automatically, well, you have to press up on the dpad but if you let go he continues to walk up them and you can't stop and go back down until he's finished. It's like that at the apartments and the shrine. I can't really think of a place where you can start walking up the steps and then just change your mind.

And you were not able to go up or down if somebody was in the stairs. I supose they solved this in Shenmue II because there's a lot more pedestians walking on the streets.

What annoys me the most in Shenmue 1 is how low is Ryo buying capsule toy. He almost takes 5min in the game to buy one while in Shenmue II you can get 3 if you're fast.
