Reliving the past with Shenmue and NullDC...

Postby Studie » Sun Aug 24, 2014 1:43 am

Finally I got nullDC working with my Trio Linker Plus II.
I couldn't believe how buttery smooth it was on PC.
Shenmue definitely plays better on the emulator.
When I was playing it on my DC the input of the controls were delayed and not a smooth. Man o man nullDC is great.
Here is a screenshot of it on 1080P on my PC.

Here's another picture of my Japanese DC region modded playing the Undubed version of Shenmue!

please, how do you play in widescreen ?

Strange for your pad delay, don't remember about that issue.

Well its fine playing on nullDC so I will replay the game on it there with the undubed version so I can listen all the Japanese voices :D
Here's a few more screenshots for you. There is a setting on nullDC to play widescreen. My computer plays it fine.

Ah I find it, you can even play in super widescreen in window mode like a true hong kong movie.

But clipping getting worse as counterpart...

Yeah I think clipping is a problem but my computer renders it really fast so its not that noticeable.

Great to see people enjoy Shenmue again after years. :D

Yeah you can go really far with nullDC. Shenmue II in 36:9. That is 3840x960.
Also uses the Adaptive Linear Z-Buffer wich eliminates the black bars, HUD and so on.
This is a rare example of really good results though. Normally, things that are slightly outside of the 4:3 frame will vanish into oblivion and it' not depending on the hardware you're using to run nullDC, it's simply how Shenmue's graphics engine clipps stuff, that is outside of the field of view. They have to do something like that to maintain the awesome graphics, you know.

Tbh clipping is terrible in my version but I didn't think to setup nulldc 1.0.4 (built jun 20 2010)
So PVR to triangle, linear z buffer and is that all ? Where is linear buffer ? There are 4 modes and no one is linear.

Thanks bluemue, it's much better now ;-)

I know it's pointless but as you're maybe german, do you know where could I find a good PAL iso of Skies of arcadia ? The Echelon rip I downloaded is unfortunately out of sync.

I have a copy of the game - but not sure how I'd go about creating an iso from it? It might be worth downloading the US copy though as the PAL version isn't VGA compatible.

Thanks I found the same few hours ago, it works but has only 50 fps and it's really unpleasant from my point of view. Is there any nulldc option to force the 60 hz ? Seems that buy the original game and rip it is the only solution in my case. :-({|=

edit : it appears that the original PAL version was only 50 fps anyway, shame
