Best Shenmue Guide? (JP, Both games)

Postby Ryuman » Tue Nov 24, 2015 9:14 am

Hey, guys. Just been thinking about some Shenmue stuff recently, and I was wondering if there were guides for the Japanese versions of Shenmue I and II that people generally agree are the best in terms of content i.e Game info, series background, images, presentation, etc.
There seem to be a fair few as is usually the case with these things, hence my asking. Just wondering if there was a 'best' in the event that I decide to track one down, since I'm still a relatively new fan. (I don't even own copies of the games- Damn scalpers  )

Anyways, thanks to whoever's reading.

The one made by Enterbrain is probably your best bet. I definately like it the most of the Shenmue guide books.
It's in a larger format then the others (A4) and has everything you'll ever need in it's 159 pages, inclucing all the character profiles.

For Shenmue II, I'd say this one.

Japanese guides are most of the time the best ones. The white one (made by Famitsu) is great. Problem is, unless you can read Japanese, that won't help you.

You could probably use this one if needed :

That's fine, I'm looking for a JP guide in more or less a collector's vein. I own plenty of Japanese books (Mostly Dragon Ball, lol). I just like to have them, skim though the contents and try to understand what I can with the still rather basic Japanese knowledge I have already. I think part of it is also having something that I can use for when I (hopefully!) one day work up my Japanese enough to comprehend them.
Thank you very much for your suggestion regardless!

Ahhh, I see. That Shenmue I guide wasn't even properly categorised on Sega Retro's little list at the bottom. Thanks a lot for the recommendations! I really appreciate it.
