I have never managed to beat Chai in the You Arcade. I've simply accepted the mindset of 'He's going to beat me, but I'm going to get a few punches and kicks in anyway' every time I head into the fight. In a strange way, I like losing to Chai and having to head back to Dobuita the next day because, in my mind, it turns the run-up to confronting Jimmy into a 'Right, you are fucking dead' situation.

The first time I finished Shenmue II was in like 2007 on xbox, because I had this glitch on DC that the ripped copies of SII would get stuck in a part of the game if you had the language of the console in another language that wasn't english.

I got the xbox thinking that the first game I would play was going to be Shenmue IIx, but the store was always closed and then they didn't have it anymore.

I ended buying the game used online some years later :(

The first time I had to sneak into that 'old' werehouse no. 8 to speak to Chen took me like 30+ times.

I remember just how frightening it was getting chased by guards and getting caught.

That old bigger ended up having to give me a map, it was really embarrassing lol

I bought/rented a used copy of Shenmue 2x at Gamestop to play on a friends Xbox.

After the 7 days were up I returned the game and got my money back.

I could have just let my friend have the game, but I knew he wouldn't have appreciated it.

I used to think Shenmue 1 was merely "good" and that Shenmue 2 was where the series got totally amazing.

Then I played the undub version of 1 and realised it's also a masterpiece, in a different way. I really think the English dub detracts from the first game.

Shenmue in japanese is absolutely a must, I need to find some means to play that Shenmue 1 undub when ever I get around to playing Shenmue I and II again. I plan on also buying an HDMI VGA Adapter for my Dreamcast before I do that as well.

For me Corey Is Ryo and maybe its just nostalgia but growing up with shen1 in the us and shen2 on xbox, it just feels right. Tom/Ren/Guizang/Fukuhara, all of these characters just feel right for me in english and so i prefer the games in English.
I however always saw Shen 1 and 2 as equally great in different ways.

Same for me, sorta. Dub for Shenmue all the way, but I had the Pal version of Shenmue Il on DC long before I got the xbox version. so that one has to be subbed, feels right. Sorta like an old school Kung fu movie lol

I sold my Dreamcast and PAL Shenmue 1 & 2 copies a few years after the discontinuation of the Dreamcast.

Biggest mistake in my gamer life. Still regret it.

Years later I bought Shenmue II for Xbox and replayed it on the X360.
But sadly, I can't play Shenmue anymore, if not on emulator

I don't like Nozomi.

I still haven't experienced a lot of Shenmue content for myself such as Fangmei's side quest and many others.

Thanks to Yu Suzuki talking about character roles in Shenmue 3, I find myself shipping Shenhua and Ren together.

The idea of Ryo in a romance with anyone is just hilairious to me. He's far too serious.

I almost entirely forgot about Shenmue until E3 2015. The announcement ignited an old flame in me and I immediately replayed both games after.

The music that plays in the first part of the yellow head building makes me skim through it as fast as I can. Nightmare inducing, man.

I can not for the life of me make money when taking over a lucky hit stand. On the rare occasion that I do, it's like 25 and that's it.

Now that Shenmue 3 has been announced, I'm waiting desperately for a company to acknowledge the existence of Skies of Arcadia as well.

I love Goro to pieces.

To this day, I'm not sure whether to say Zhao Sunming or Sunming Zhao.

I paid $50 for the Xbox version of Shenmue II when the prices were sky high, thinking they wouldn't go back down. I've barely played it, and the case insert isn't even in good shape.

Also, I looked up the Ghost Hall QTE sequences beforehand because fuck that.
