Pretend it's May 1999

Hey everyone I hear late next year a game called Sheng Mu is coming out.

I guess it's some sort of Virtua Fighter RPG or something. It looks like it's set in the 80's and everyone has Top Gun styled spiky hair and ripped jeans.... think it will be any good?

It's coming out for Dreamcast but I dunno I'll probably just wait for PS2 since it can do 70 million polygons per second I hear!

Oh my words this game sounds amazing! Apparently SEGA spent, like $100 million so that you can do anything you absolutely want to, it's just like real life, but your way! You can spend money on crisps and toys, listen to music with your cassette player, go to the arcades and play sonic, get a girlfriend and talk to anyone about anything. It's so lifelike that you could like, pick up a grain of rice from the floor! It's so grand and ambitious that the whole game is like 48+ super big discs that cover the whole world but they will only give us like 4 of them every year! I heard you can even get your VMU and play the game anywhere you want!

I'm looking forward to this and another game where you get a talking fish pet and you can feed it and talk to it about anything and it will be your friend and talk to you for life!

(Seriously, this was probably what I would say as a 9 year old in the school playground! My goodness they were different times, I still remember when people were saying that the Wii was going to have a projector built in so you could play Tekken with the characters being their natural, lifelike size lol)

Hear me people of 1999!

I bring grim tidings from the year 2016!

Global Warming wreaks havoc around the globe!

Wars in the Middle East and elsewhere continue unabated!

Donald Trump is poised to become President of the United States!

There will be a 16 year gap between the release of Shenmue 2 and Shenmue 3!

I ask that you not despair, for though the journey is fraught with dangers, Shenmue 3 is worth the wait!

No sorry, Yu Suzuki wanted you to have Shenmue 64 when you were old enough but Kintor wouldn't allow it.
He thought putting the game on a system with "blurry graphics" was some damn fool idealistic crusade.

But seriously I don't think the N64 can handle Sheng Mu... I read somewhere that the worst looking Dreamcast game looks better than the BEST looking N64 game.. can you imagine??

Besides they say Dreamcast can draw 3 MILLION polygons per second.. that's like 3x as many polys than on Model 3 in the arcade!

Ryu and Rei (the two main characters of Sheng Mu) are supposed to have so many polys in their faces that they will look photo real!

The story is apparently about Ryu and Rei growing up in Hong Kong... not sure what else but maybe there's some kind of Kung Fu flick revenge drama in there.

I've just read up on this in CVG and apparently there are places to buy a change of clothes like a jacket shop in town, but if you want a more customized outfit you have to walk around asking NPCs if they know any places where tailors hang out.

Does not look better than my average Psx game, don't know why it is releasing on an inferior platform, Metal Gear Solid looks miles better, imagin Shengmu running on the mighty Psx, that would be like real life grafix.

Read about this in the Kickstarter magazine recently and sent them some money in the included pledge envelope. I hope they open up phone ordering soon for people who couldn't contribute.

They're "looking into it."
