Time goes quicker when viewing the watch?

Is it true that when the player views the watch (as shown above) the in-game time in Shenmue goes a little faster. Or is it a myth?

I think it's a myth however it would be a good feature to include in the hd remasters if released.

Could be true since speedrunners do this method.
