This was an idea that was brought to my attention and now that I am done with school, I figure that I should work on it.

I will hand the project off if needed.

This mod is based on ideas given to me from various members here.

You mentioned the crouch feature towards the end of the video. Crouching was still part of the game in the What's Shenmue demo so if you're so inclined give it a shot. Just press A Button. No mods necessary.

Yup, I've crouched in WS many times. I believe it was replaced by auto crouch during specific scenes, IE Megumis kitten.

It would be possible to get it back into the retail shenmue but I dont see a reason for it other than because we can.

The bike mod is doing well so far. I am still trying different methods to keep the engine from locking up.

I think maybe there could even be different approaches for the Bike mod. OK I'm mainly just guessing here, but possible approaches that came to my mind:

- Replace the Motion data from Ryos walking to the bike motion data. Not sure about the format in S1, in Shenmue 2 you have seperate .mot files for some motions. In Shenmue 1 i think the motions get switched in mapinfo.bin, quote from a Whats Shenmue mapinfo "FTLK: Set motion %d to %s 2"

- Maybe it's also in the 1st_read.bin, if you search the 1st read.bin of Whats Shenmue for "BIKE" you find a reference. Other references in 1st read i suggest at least looking at are "BikeRoot" (I think that might be the definition of the bike) and "Mo_HoldBike" (I think maybe thats the motion for sitting on the bike).

- Edit the motion.bin. Prolly the hardest part since that file is not really human readable. But the 1st read refers to it, i think it refers to hex codes for the start byte to read from if i understand it right.

Question though, is the mod going to be released to the public to try out? I can understand if not, just curious.

Also if you're worried about credits, is it feasible to change the texture on the Bicycle and add your name or a symbol of sorts, that along with a video will provide a watermark for the accomplishment you've made.

Hi all,

I have been updating the status of this project at the Shenmue500k group on Facebook.

Dont worry, I am still actively working on the project.

The problem I am having is that when replacing the motorcycle with the bike, the game locks up. I found this out to be the fact that the mem address that the motorcycle uses for referencing is within protected memory so when it changes a mismatch occurs and throws a kernel panic. Im trying to work around this.
