Here's my Saturn vs. Dreamcast comparison. I took a lot of care to make everything sync. Enjoy!

only just noticed this but in the Saturn version of the warehouse scene when you first meet Ren, Ren is holding the Pheonix Mirror- 1:56. he laughs and then throws it down to the beaten up Ryo.

I'm glad you all enjoy it!

Yeah the Phoenix Mirror... I was thinking about shoving the short scene at Lucky Plaza where Ren is holding the mirror in there. But it would've broken up the scene at the warehouse too much so I just went with the cutscene you get when you fail the QTE. That's pretty much the eqivalent scene in the final game.

My very interesting thoughts :

1) I love 60 fps. The video makes the DC version even better.

2) what ? The underground ? The Shenhua's house ? I just didn't get it lol, thought (prayed) it could be shenmue III part.

3) Shenmue is like the bible or another central religious text with their different slight interpretations for the same legendary story. The Shenmue Saturn video always fascinated me for that.

4) We didn't need this video to know how the story and the cinematographic style between the two versions remain very faithful to each other, especially the intro scene indeed. All the details were mainly consciously chosen. Shenmue is a serious thing, built primarily around the story of an artist rather a lucrative gameplay concept. It's literally an auteur videogame.

5) Charismatic Ren has always been considered as a main protagonist (good) whereas Nozomi's absence gives us the feeling that she might have been added lately for Shenmue I purpose.

6) Thanks Bluemue

After nearly 2400 raffle tickets I was finally able to finish this one up!

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It's actually 30 fps and Youtube downgrades it to 25fps or something.
But yeah it looks super smooth in comparison to the Saturn footage. I guess that one runs at 15fps.
Shenmue is generally a pretty smooth looking 30fps game.

New video and some updates here.

I can finally upload my own thumbnails to my videos. So they'll look much nicer from now on.
Gave all the previous Shenmue videos improved thumbs aswell.

Also, I recorded this one at twice resolution and the downsampled it to the regular size. This makes everything less jaggy and more pleasant to look at while keeping it crisp and clean as usual. Tell me what you think!

After trying this months ago and failing, I was now finally able to meet Mr. Yukawa at the Bar!
That's one more thing of the list. I'm really running out of things to do...

Here you can see the Slot House certificates from Shenmue II. Not the most interesting thing tbh.
Especially if you consider how long it takes to get to 1 million.

In case anyone is wondering how much of a difference the new recording process with downsampling makes,
here is a quick comparison. http://s14.directupload.net/images/141027/gp86itff.jpg

Here is the Pit Blow lesson with a couple of extra scenes, like doing it step by step and coming back the next day to try again. There's a lot of failing included aswell.

Funny comment about that video: The certificates from S2 were actually translated (The actual paper) in the XBOX version. Sucks to be in DC.

Upload 60 fps video is possible if you divide by two the video/audio speed and ask viewers to enable the x2 speed in youtube menu in html5 mode, like this Outrun 2 video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASvh00Icy9w

In the case of Shenmue, see some 60 fps videos might be interesting as nobody has still uploaded this kind of stuff on Youtube. After all, 60 fps is essential when you play fighting gameplay and QTE as accurate as those of Shenmue.

By the way, I didn't know that meeting Mr. Yukawa at the Bar was ever possible, wow even a simple Shenmue demo has its surprises.

@IlDucci: If you look close enough, you can see even spot some engrish. "Pain Slot House"

@Yokosuka: Interesting! With the HTML5 player the videos run smoother, just like before I upload them. With the regular player the videos can look a bit jumpy at times, that's why I suspect they only run at 25fps. Unfortunately the fixed 360p video on the HTML5 player doesn't look that great. Youtube is going to make 60fps videos available as a standard option soon. It's already in the testing phase from what I can tell. Guess that will be a better solution then.
