Postby Hazuki-San » Fri Jul 25, 2008 6:50 pm

This topic might of been made before
but i just wondered what people liked more.

Shenmue works on the 360 now
which is great. Dreamcast is cool though :?

Personal preference is dreamcast, its the first one i played and i think it flows better with the Japanese voices. I do like the snapshot feature and the extra stability/polish the Xbox version has though.

Yeah, its been covered before, but I can't be arsed hunting the topic down.

Has to be the DC version. Can't stand the English dub on the Xbox.

Yeah, me too. I love playing it in Japanese, going back to English is tough. Yet I find myself willing to do so for the crisp visuals on Xbox360....

Someone send me a VGA cable for Dreamcast ;p

I've only played Shenmue IIx, but I prefer it on the Xbox because of some glitches on the 360 version.

I've only ever played Shenmue II on the Xbox, and I've always loved the fact that it carried over the English voices (even the cheesy ones) because that's how I experienced the first Shenmue. To go from hearing Ryo speaking in English to Ryo speaking in Japanese would take some getting used to.

But even so, I'm going to finally be getting the Dreamcast version in a day or two. Even if I don't like the voices as much, I figure playing it on the Dreamcast will make the whole experience even more enjoyable. It's Shenmue II the way it should have been. :P

I'm not a fan of the Neon faces on XBox.

Been done before. However, it's not been done for a while:

Dreamcast:
+ Original Japanese voice acting.
+ Carrying over save from Shenmue I.

- Worse framerate.
- Less complex lighting, etc

Xbox:
+ Solid framerate.
+ Less aggressive character fade-in.
+ Higher polygon model for Ryo and his shadow model.
+ More complex lighting effects, etc.
+ Cool snapshot and filter features.

- Shit English dub.
- No carrying over save from Shenmue I.

I personally prefer the Dreamcast version, due mostly to the ability to carry over your save from Shenmue I, but also because of the great Japanese voice acting. However, I will say that the Xbox version gets a really unfair amount of flak from certain snobs, and 99% of the differences on that website are just that.. different. Not worse. Furthermore, none of you would have noticed were it not for that site. I like the Xbox version's lighting and stuff. That firefly scene towards the end is so beautiful on Xbox, and looks kind of flat on Dreamcast in comparison.

The emulation of Shenmue IIx on 360 has a number of glitches that the original game did not. They are, for the most part, purely cosmetic and do not hinder gameplay (for example, the background music in the Golden Qtr. is known to stop playing randomly). Do a search and you'll find a few threads that detail the glitches/bugs people have run across on the emulated version.

Gonna have to agree on all counts with that. I do prefer the Dreamcast version myself (for the same reasons as above) but the Xbox version was a very worthy effort indeed. And yeah, why do purists hate it so? Other than the obvious 'blur', I can't really find much to whine about. Plus the extra content (games, snapshots, comic strips) give it additional replay value because I can guarantee that most people wont obtain all those photos the first time around.

And yeah, the firefly sequence absolutely shined on the Xbox. ;)
